Excellent is for the money/value (27% off). I had this speaker for about one month. very clear sound. Amazing bass for a bookshelf, high and mid frequency might need an EQ to catch up. Could be bright at beginning, at least compared to my Yamaha speaker, I have to shy my ear for some high pitch (hopefully can get better later on). The tweeter sounds not as smoothy as I like for some recordings I listened, could be the music recording? I don't know, I am still on my way of evaluating this speaker. Overall, it is a very good speaker, better than what I have previously owned. I auditioned focal 807v side by side with this 703. The 807v has splendid mid but clarity overall is inferior to the 703 that made me decided to g ofor 703. Sensitivity of 703 is 88dB, more power is needed for pleasant sound pressure.Read full review
I'm a classical musician and "mid-range" audiophile. I'm quite critical of my audio and have always gotten the best I can afford. About 15 years ago I got hooked on Martin Logan electrostatic speakers. I love their transparency and quick response etc etc. This year, after moving into a smaller house, I reluctantly decided to let them go and started researching bookshelf speakers. I've know Polk for years but hadn't heard any since the 1980's. Anyway, I got these and am completely blown away - especially for the price! They are really beautiful and open sounding speakers. They are powerful, open, dynamic and not harsh at all. I was really worried about enjoying listening to music after all my hears with the electrostatics, but these are really wonderful. They are absolutely 1st class!

These replaced 15 year old Polk RTI-8 towers - Currently run by Denon DRA 697ci 100 watt per stereo receiver w/ Denon DVD player - I am not into home theater, stricktly stereo CD audio - Impressive Out-Of-The-Box performance - (Polk says they need 100+ hours to break in) - First impression was that, contrary to other observations, these speakers have plenty of bass - More prominent & tighter than the RTI-8's - They also have a much wider & more open soundstage even though they are currently placed atop 2 dining chairs (17" high) - I raised them to 21" by placing books underneath and the improvement in openness & instrument placement is readily noticeable... I will be ordering custom stands from GWIZ PRODUCTS in 2 weeks w delivery about 2 weeks later - Two weeks from then I will be adding a Cambridge Audio CD platform - Given that these are phenomenal out-of-the-box, I expect even greater performance after they have matured and sit atop 21" stands thru an audiophile grade CD source... I bought these thru Polk Audio's Ebay store - Less than $1.000 including shipping - Absolutely no flaws what-so-ever - OUTSTANDING VALUE - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... P.S. - These speakers are more black than mahogany...Read full review

These are the absolute bookshelf speakers I ever listened to, and they are not even broken in yet. 3 way bookshelf speakers make a big difference over the typical 2 way. I was using Bose 301 which were fine but way too much bass, whereas these Polk's are well balanced and deliver. I have 2 Polk tower speakers at my other home and these sound just about as good.

I really do not want to drive the price up, but these babies are what I have been looking for for 45 years ! Using 5 of these little jewels with 3 Denon power amps and a new Oppo front end . Now that they are all broke in after 3 months , the sound is the best I have ever had. Even my old stereo prog rock sounds fantastic ! Of coarse the mid bass is very sensitive to to original production of the program material and the reflections of the room ,but with a good sub for below 50 HZ , I think you will be very happy for less than several grand .
