One of John Denvers finest albums. A 1971 release, it includes hits like the tender love song "My Sweet Lady", the feel good "Sunshine on my Shoulders" and the classic "Take me home, Country Roads". It also contains several covers songs, in "Let It Be", "Junk" by McCartney/The Beatles, and James Taylor's "Fire & Rain" done in John Denvers soothing style. Some of the best though, as is usually the case, are his less heralded songs, that capture the true genius that was John Denver. The title song, "Poems, Prayers and Promises" is an insight to the man, and the singer. One of my favorites of all time is "Gospel Changes" is one of the most inspirational songs I have ever heard, and still chokes me up every time I hear it, even after almost 40 years. The Album ends (on the CD) with "The Box", a spoken piece, as moving and relevant today, as it was in 1971. Anyone who loves good music, rich in melody, and simply in form, yet so deep in meaning, will cherish this album for a lifetime, as I have from age 14, through the decades, to now being age 52, and having it mean even more today, than it did back then. Refreshing to hear the simpler production and less airplay of these cuts--a clear path to what lay just around the bend-

This is one of my favorite albums. I renew it every time a new formate comes along. I love the mix on this album because it contains songs so beautiful that you wonder why they never seem to hit the airways that much, some not at all. Love it.
