Although this novel isn't in his key (lawyers) vain, it's still a very good story. It's about a football player, and a lot of it deals with the game but it has enough about his personal life to keep it interesting. If you liked "The Painted House" or "Bleachers" you should enjoy this one. "Playing for Pizza" isn't one of his 5 star novels, but I would rate it 4 stars. The one thing I don't really care for is Random House's production of CD's. This one, like most of them, skips and pops on the last track of some of the CDs. This is NOT John Grisham's fault.
Incredibly entertaining and unlike Grisham's legal dramas. My favorite author can literally do no wrong.

Bought this for my hubby who travels occasionally and enjoys having something to listen to -- he drew some parallels between this book and the movie, Rudy. Having read other Grisham novels, he said that although this one is different, it is every bit as good! He recommended I read it, even though I am not the football fan that he is - he felt certain I'd enjoy it! If you like Grisham, you may like it too!
Loved the descriptions of Italian food, as well as the personality of the main character. Read like a travelogue with personality. Good story.
