The sci-fi adventure Planetes (2004) opens in 2075, Ai Tanabe arrives at Space she's been assigned to the Debris Section. Whenever Planetes starts to copy a formula, the filmmakers go in a new direction. Director Goro Taniguchi and his artists involve the characters in a deadly plot launched by the terrorist Space Defense Front. The extras include photographs of real space debris that's fallen to Earth and a discussion with NASA officials, who warn there may be 15,000 objects 10cm or larger orbiting the planet at speeds approaching 8 km./sec.
Well, I like the story, while it is classic Anime style storytelling, the science behind the stories are based on real life.

A friend had a rented a copy from somewhere, but the some of the extra features were missing. I enjoyed the series so much that I searched it out for purchase. If I could preview anime titles, I would probably purchase more box sets, rather than buying onesy-twoesy and losing interest. This series had "The Right Stuff" to hold my attention.
A great collection of an underrated anime series.
