Not the easiest to set up, but once set up, sound is very good. Had a Pioneer VSX-1121 previously that the main chip failed on. This 820 has a different chip, so hopefully it will last longer!

I've been a fan of Pioneer products (and some of my friends) since the 80's, and have never been disappointed with my purchases of their products. Not a shill for corporate anyone. Most corporate leaders are in my opinion psychopaths. Lets face facts though. How many people, including myself have purchased Sony products and then experience the WTF factor??? My previous home theatre amplifier was a Pioneer xxxx that was 15 years old (still working). However, I upgraded to blu-ray this past Xmas, did my research and selected this amplifier for its technology upgrades and the additional power. The previous amplifier was 5.1 @ 75 watts/channel. I use Klipsch Legend towers and C7 center with a 500 watt Energy sub. The previous amp needed an external fan to cool it down when taking the leash off. Not with this amplifier. It just seems bottomless in capacity. I literally can play this system at sound pressure levels with incredible clarity and definition, that I keep looking at my front door expecting neighbors to complain. Not to mention the walls and windows do vibrate at peaks also. This is only with the "volume" control at 50%. There are many features in this box that I don't or won't need, but I doubt the majority of users will ever need to drill down to them. Those kind of people purchase audiophile equipment for thousands of dollars. I purchased this amplifier for $256.00 new. For that kind of money, I would expect a right proper POS. The previous amp was almost $800.00 15 years ago. Personally, I am blown away by this amazing technology every time I use it. In all things good or bad, all humans have the right to think, and the right to choose. I chose well. Peace all. VeritasRead full review

This receiver has turned out to be a great entry level reciever. The price was right and its working great. It is a little complicated at first, but with practice comes ease. The only thing that chaps my hide is the on-screen controls dont work when using the hdmi plugs. so in order to fine tune speaker levels I had to unplug hdmi and use the RCA cables, tune, then plug hdmi back up. I recommend this receiver to anyone with a budget 'cause it works great.
Awesome sound. World of difference between my old Sony and this really nice Pioneer. The HDMI channel switcher makes it so much easier for my Harmony remote to start an activity appropriately. The iPod/iPhone feature should also be more Android friendly. After all Android sales are on the rise while Apple's is plummeting.
