Purchased this item to replace the appallingly poor excuse for a subwoofer included in the Bang&Olufsen system in the B8/B8.5 Audi A4/A5/S4/S5 vehicles. This subwoofer is much heavier, and much better built. It's not a drop-in replacement (you will need to apply sound deadening material to the rear shelf, and raise the subwoofer with an MDF ring in order to seal this unit) but the effort is well worth it. This sub functions quite well as a free-air subwoofer. It provides just enough bass without being overpowering, or droning. It still doesn't hit the lowest frequencies in a free air configuration, but am pretty certain that performance would be even better in a sealed or ported box enclosure built to the appropriate dimensions and volume. If you're looking to win SPL competitions, or rattle your neighbour's windows, this may not be the sub for you. If you want a little extra kick, and some beefier bottom end, this item is perfect. It's quite sensitive, so it doesn't require an obscene amount of power to run it. I'm running it off the stock B&O amplifier, and it's much, much better than the OEM item, especially after a few hours of use. Highly recommended for the money.Read full review

I own an Audi B8 S4 which comes with a bang and olufsen sound system as optional extra. Unfortunately the rear sub is woefully poor when it comes to bass. This Alpine unit can be swapped in without the need to change the sub so it's a perfect solution. I removed the old sub, laid lots of sound deadening material on the rear deck and then fitted the Alpine sub in it's place. For anyone thinking of doing the same, you'll need a 10" x 0.75" spacer as the Alpine unit won't fit into the factory slot otherwise. I connected the sub to the spacer with screws and then bolted it in place from underneath using the factory bolts holes from the old sub and some more screws. Everything is secure. To wire this sub up you'll need to run it in series using a piece of speaker wire. Cut the connector from the original sub wiring and then connect the wires to the new Alpine sub in reverse polarity (negative to positive and vice versa) as the new Alpine is facing up and the old sub down. Then connect the piece of speaker cable in series from positive to negative on the other connection points. The standard sub is 8ohm whereas the Alpine is DVC 4ohm. The sound difference is much better. I still need to dial it in on the MMI and my RSNav but it sounds much better than the puny stock unit. A recommended upgrade for this car if you can find one!
