I had a Pioneer SC-07 for 15years. And decided to upgrade. This LX801 has all the Bells and Whistles you want in a 9.2 receiver. Very pleased with it performance right out the box. Lots of Network and BT features. Also 4K video enhancement.

This AVR is much easier to use and setup than Pioneer's last year and previous generation models. The sound is better and speakers are better utilized where 2 channel sound seam to get spread out over more of the speakers. But I'm still not sure, see bellow. In addition, although Pioneer has not yet returned to LED meters showing output to each speaker, they do show the speakers that are supposed to be on and the status button shows, for example 5.1 input to 7.1 output, as well as 1k or 4k video out. They still need the LED meters back though so I know when a speaker should be producing sound at any given moment. The AVR may show the speaker is being utilized, but I still don't know if a signal is being sent to it. Still sticking my ear up to a speaker to see if I can hear something. Quite annoying when there are 7.1.4 speakers and you can't get your head up there. An alternative would be to let me kick off the speaker volume level function and hear the audio actually playing one speaker at a time. This would be an improvement but the LED meters were best because I could up the volume on each speaker, hear the change, and get confirmation by watching the meter go up on the display face. Plus, I could see when a speaker is at max to confirm a speaker wire is disconnected or not. This is a very common and persistent problem when something in the room got moved and a speaker wire was pulled out. With all these speakers it can be months before you realize a speaker is not producing. Or worse never, or until you change something and retest the system.Read full review

I am well pleased with the performance and ease of set up from this unit. I am upgrading from a SC 5, whose remote has many more buttons. When I first opened the box and looked at the remote, I was pleasantly surprised how they were able to incorporate all the functions together. The on screen menu was easy to follow, and the sound is exceptional!

This is an outstanding receiver, just what I expected from Pioneer. I found the setup more frustrating than expected and still don't have it "just right". If you're installing this unit n a closed space please note, it does generate considerable heat. Build quality is very good but the provided setup manual is just "OK". There is a more detailed manual available on line but I feel that should have been part of the receiver package. All said, in my opinion it was a good value purchase. Only reason 4 stars is setup frustration(s) or it would be a 5. I like plug and play, this unit is not that.

This is my second Pioneer Elite receiver in 5 years and I have been very happy with both of them. Fairly simple to get set up and calibrated using the Air Studios auto setup. I can't speak for the onboard amp's because I am using separate outboard amps but the decoding is awesome. Movies, TV, games all sound amazing.
