Both seem work fine now but I have yet to install them in the application I purchased them for. The manual for these units can be found online so I downloaded it.

These Pioneer players were state of the art when they were introduced. Unfortunately, that was about 20 years ago and many of them have seen tough commercial service. Unless you are an AV tech and have the know how, I would opt for a much newer and simpler system. Also, there is not HDMI and the unit will not play blu ray discs. The instruction book alone is 80 plus pages.

This is a really solid unit for video editing from DVD. It has all of the expected outputs from RF and composite to svideo and digital outs. It has a wide birth of features that give it a strong professional feel when operating. The menus are a little cumbersome but you can connect a mouse to the unit to make them a little more user friendly. Sitting next to the 7200 (which is an older model), there are a lot of advantages. However, both will do bar code cds. I like the cueing of the 7400 more and it houses dts and trusurround for it's audio processing. One minor flaw is that they only use DVD-R, so keep that in mind. Overall these are solid units and work quite well considering their age. They were in the $800-$1000 range new and they preform like it. Also, in my opinion, there is nothing like the pioneer drives.Read full review
If you are using DVD in a continuous play situation, especially over an extended time, then this is THE machine to use. My experience with consumer machines, regardless of the brand (and I tried many) was that after 3 months they either stopped reading the disc or the motor failed. This machine is designed to last in an industrial or professional situation. Now that Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are an item, you can often get this hard working player for less dollars - a real bargain as long as you can use standard DVDs or CDs in your application. My company owns over 50 of these and they are a real gem in the industry. Thank you Pioneer!
Bought for music only. Absolutely worth every penny as a CD player alone. If it lasts 1/2 as long as it is rated for, this will be one of the best electronic values I have ever purchased.
