I'd bought the Ping K15 driver, 12* regular shaft, trying to get extra help, being a high-handicapper (haven't actually got one but would probably be about 26). Tried that for a while and found it ok, but I wanted to be sure I was getting all the forgiveness I could. Its Ping regular shaft felt slightly stiffer than I thought it should, and I spotted this G10 Draw with a Proforce V2 "High Launch" regular shaft. Two reasons why I liked the idea: 1) It had 13.5* of loft against the 12* I already had, and 2) I was hoping the "High Launch" shaft would also give me extra height, and therefore extra carry. Result: yes, the extra loft and the lower kickpoint on the high launch shaft did give me the desired extra height, which is what I bought it for. Mission accomplished? Well, not exactly, and I learned something along the way. Although the lower kickpoint shaft feels great hitting through the ball and flicks the ball up nice and high, the G10 driver is somehow not as directionally stable as the K15 driver. In fact, the K15 driver is brilliant in this respect, and I had to buy the G10 to find this out. The G10 is a very good driver by any other standard - Lee Westwood was STILL using it until only a few months ago. But it was only after hitting a bucket or two on the range with the G10, and then switching back to the K15, that I realised what a gem I had in the K15. The K15 is more forgiving for one simple reason: it has a directional stability through the swing path that feels similar to a square headed wood. In other words, as I'm guiding the clubhead along its swing path towards the ball, it takes no effort at all to keep the face square - it seems to do this by itself. But when I try the same thing with the G10, it's not helping me so much. It seems more sensitive to every little movement of my hands, and if I don't guide the club along its swing path perfectly, it punishes me. To some degree this should be expected. Ping marketed the G10 as a "game improvement" driver with "high forgiveness", while the K15, they said, was a "super game improvement" driver with "maximum forgiveness". In my opinion, as an owner of both, they are right in what they say there about the K15, but they're not really being fair about the G10. I would say the G10 should be left to mid-handicappers and better players who may want to dial in a bit of left or right, and know how to do that, and have a highly repeatable swing to be able to pull it off. But the K15 is a high-handicapper's club fair and square (no pun intended!) - it only knows how to go straight. To me, the G10 just feels slightly more unwieldy. On the rare occasion that I can hit it sweet, it will go higher and further. But, good though it is, I'm just not as likely to hit it out of the sweet spot as I am the K15, nor am I as likely to hit it square. Just one thing I don't get: Ping marketed the G10 and G15 drivers as "high forgiveness", but the K15 as "maximum forgiveness". So why did they offer the G10/15 in up to 13.5* loft, but only offer the K15 in up to 12*? Seems back to front to me. If I could have bought a K15 with 13.5* and a high launch shaft, that would have been my ideal driver. But you can't get that loft, and I've only ever seen them with the stock Ping shafts. (Tried the Ping "soft regular", but it's dreadfully whippy and no good). In conclusion: K15 - straight and easy; G10 - long but only worth it if you're a very accurate consistent ball striker.Read full review
I read the Golf Digest review and was all pumped up about ordering the Ping G10... To my surprise the club did not perform as it was described... I lost distance and for some reason it seemed that every drive had a slight push to the right compared to the Taylormade Tour Burner... I am not sure if it was due to the longer shaft put in the club but for me it just did not set up nice or feel comfortable... As for looks the orange was fine and the moon shape alignment did not distract... I could not tell a major difference between it and the Ping Rapture... My friend that is an avid Ping guy hit it and duck hooked every shot compared to his Ping Rapture... Neither one of us were impressed with the G10... I have since went back to my Tour Burner. Only advise I would give is to make sure you go and demo a club before purchase. Update: (August 09) After playing this club off and on for the last year, I still do not hit it as well as I would like... I was able to change my swing enough to have a slight draw... I also found out that the stock shaft was not a good fit for my swing and upgraded to my favorite shaft... I also had the new shaft installed at 44 3/4" for better control... I can tell you that when the G10 is hit on the sweet spot it peforms just as well as all of the other drivers on the market... The problem I have with the G10 is with forgiveness... Off center hits have a major loss in distance and direction... Unlike the Burner, the G10 is more of a player's club... It is ideal for a 9 or lower handicap that can hit the sweet spot on a consistent basis and is able to work the ball left and right.Read full review
Before purchasing the G10, I was using a Cleveland 460 Launcher, senior shaft. Liked it but in my quest to add yards to the drive, found the Ping G-10. The club has the standard senior shaft and I find that it seems more stiff than the Cleveland. I like the fact that the club face isn't off set because I seem to hit the ball straighter. It was easy to transition from the old to the new, but I find that to get the most out of this club, how you swing through the ball has to be more precise. You can't go wrong with Ping clubs!
i used to own the g10 golf clubs. i traded in for the new g15's. bad choice for me as i do not like the feel of the new ones. so i decided to go back and try to find some like i used to have. i have purchased 3 drivers from ebay. one had a shaft on it that i "do not" like. a 2nd one is a brand new club, but the shaft is different from what i used to have, but it's acceptable. the 3rd club is exactly like the one i used to have,,, but i was a little dissapointed that the club head was scarred up quite a bit. ref: the way they hit,,, 2 out of 3 is not bad. i may have to go to a golf store and have the shafts switched around. i feel buying them for the price i paid, i won't mind spending a little extra to do something like that so i'm back to square one & a happy person.
Ping golf clubs simply work. Not too much sizzle, they just perform. The G10 driver is a typical Ping, as good as, or better than anything else out there. Distance is better than most, if not all, and forgiveness is almost as good as those buttugleee square things. The most enjoyable feature to me is the feel and sound of a well struck drive. I have tried them all and this one feels better to me than any other, and performs better. Check out the current Ping Touring Pros and see how many of them are still playing the G10.
