Photographer for 60 years, but this book is more valuable than most of that experience. Superior teaching on What to see and How to act photographically for excellent results. If you value making excellent images? then get this book and learn from it. While some or many of Freeman's ideas may be known to you or already are being used, there will be more "jewels" to be found. For example, he teaches how older view camera users produced great pictures while looking at upside down images. They learned to see light versus dark areas, positive versus negative space and composition instead of concentration on the subject only. To summarize my review, I give this book the highest possible positive recommendation. If you appreciate good photography and making high quality photographs instead of lucking into an occasional success story, then this book is essentially worth whatever you have to pay for it. Thank you.Read full review

Straight forward easy to read. the book introduces you to different ideologies of photography. it has helped me go from "that looks cool" to "this looks cool because" and from there I am able to start adjusting the photograph to exactly what I feel would be a good picture.

It's more than a photography book. It's a complete design manual with a lot of sample images and very simple explanations. If you're new to photography, you should read this book to open your mind and improve your skills and your way to design a photograph.
This book is precise and to the point. Must have book for any serious photographer. Right from the start, the book caught my attention and held it like noo tomorrow!
