Positve sides; compact, slight, with enough big screan with pure image. One battery charge is working 4-5 hours. Read many video formats. Has remote control. Sound is loud enough.Children are like it take in a car while trips. Negative sides; Very noisy motor, while rotatin of disk, it makes whistling sound. Fastidious to DVD's. After rewinding, some times, it freesing and need to reload. Long loading of DVD's. P.S. After six months of using. My worst experience with PHILIPS. It stopped to read any discs. I decided to buy a portable DVD player to travel with after I acquired a SmartPhone/PDA that allows me to leave the notebook plus accessories at home. After considerable research I settled on the PET24/17 because of it's excellent 8.5 inch TFT screen, it's light weight (2.2 lbs), it's battery life rated at 6 hours, it's form factor and appearance and it's very competative price. I've used it on three long trips so far and I love it. Picture quality is terrific, it fits on the plane's seat tray with room for a soft drink, etc., the controls are easy to use and the sould quality through noise cancelling headsets is great. The builtin speakers quality is very good as well but better with a pair of quality headsets. I have yet to run the battery down and I watched 3 DVDs totaling 5+ hours of viewing time on a single charge over a three day period without any problem so the battery capacity appears to be as advertised. I also like the fact that you can plug in two separate headsets if you want to share what you are watching with someone. I haven't used it to play any MP3 files yet but it does very well viewing image files on a CD. I picked this unit for quality and price-point ($150.00) and configuration and I haven't been disappointed.Read full review
I have recently enrolled in the Liberty University Distance Learning Program, and the lectures for the classes are on DVD. Since I will be "living" in DVD land for several years, I decided to get something smaller than my 17" notebook to carry around. After research, I decided to get the PET824, primarily due to the larger screen and long battery life. This player has significantly exceeded my expectations. Mine came with the player, battery pack, AC adapter, car adapter, and an ok set of earbud noise cancelling headphones. The battery life is as advertised, and with the Targus case I bought, it makes an excellent "portable classroom". I would advise getting a good case for it, the one that ships is pretty much a waste. I purchased the Targus DVD001 13 Portable DVD Player Case, and it is a perfect fit for the player with room for accessories. Overall, I would purchase this again, and highly recommend it to others.Read full review
I received this DVD player quickly and it was better than described. The picture quality is excellent, the volume when traveling with noise all around is great, you can still here the movie. It is way better than I hoped it would be. I was afraid to purchase via the internet after reading reviews for many Portable players, but, according to all other reviews and my experience with this machine; this is the best product, with the best options for the best price. This is better than other machines I have seen listed for upwards of $300. This was suppose to be a factory second based on box damage or dings and/or scratches on the machine. My DVD player has one teeney tiney scratch that if you weren't looing for it, you wouldn't notice it. The length of battery life is 6 hrs as described too. I would by this product over and over again as gifts or whatever I might want another one for, for myself. I "LOVE" it. Thanks for the great buy. TonyaRead full review
Pros: The picture quality is great, the sound is unbelievable the look of it is outstanding. I was kind of skeptical about buying a white one but the piano white with the piano black inside makes a great combination! It comes with a Region 1 lock but I found out how to unlock it to all Regions (Region 0) and now it plays DVD's from all over the world! It also plays VCD, MP3's DIV X videos. Its very lightweight, 2 pounds and the battery makes it about 3.5 pounds. The battery gives 6 hours + life and it lasts! The Cons : ALMOST NOTHING! The only little thing thats a minor problem is the noise it makes when your FIRST put in the DVD. But the sound of the speakers block it and once it starts playing the noise is minimal. If your going to buy a portable DVD player and want value + quality, get this one!Read full review
