It plays cds and blu-ray discs very well. It does not work with High Dynamic Range. I had to adjust the HDMI setting. It does fine otherwise.

When it works, it's very acceptable. However, the amplifier is weak to moderate - good for a small bedroom. These units have an inherent design problem that the manufacturer refuses to remedy. In short, the unit will not power up past 'Starting'. Too many of these units have been reported as having this problem with no fix mentioned by the manufacturer (Philips). I guess that I was somewhat lucky. . .mine worked for about 8 months before failing. Bought another one (used) that failed with the same problem after one-and-a-half months. Now I'm on my third and final one. I'll see how that one holds up. I've had an HTS3565D/37 previous to this (these) HTS3541/F7 which lasted for about 8 years of hard, continuous use with excellent sound and output, great picture etc., but the DVD player finally failed which caused me to move up(????????) to a unit with the blu-ray player instead. BIG MISTAKE!!!! Takes a couple of minutes (at best) to load a DVD and even longer for a blu-ray disc.Read full review

The unit itself was great for the few days it worked but my experience with Philips service was terrible. Philips refused to honor their warranty simply because I purchased it on ebay! They also told me that if I had purchased on Amazon they wouldn't have honored the warranty there either. It is too bad that Philips took that stand as the unit had the best picture I have seen on a blu-ray player and has a very good feature set but it quit working after only 4 days of average use. Weak on volume but that was expected on a unit with only 300 watts of power.
Bought this cheap to replace one from my houseboat that had quit, perfect replacement, speakers reconnected seamlessly. Still need a remote to control the bass/treble of the surround sound but that part works perfectly. Unit was advertised as not opening to receive media, discovered that I could "knock three times" on the top and it opens fine, hence the "Tony Orlando" designation.
