Peter Pan is a children's classic for me filmed as it were the original stage production. I bought the VHS (only format I found available) and copied it over to DVD. It brougt back good memories of watching it my 13" black & white back in the 50's with Peter, Tinker Bell, Wendy, John and Michael and the lost boys, Tiger Lily and of course Captain Hook. I always enjoy seeing how they did special effects in the 'early' days and of course everyone was a live character (including NaNa and the croc) . . . all except that is Tinker Bell who was a fairy shaped light that flitted about the set. Entertaining, but geared for the younger audience (Peter asks the audience to believe in fairies after Tink drinks Hook's poison). Don't expect a bunch of hi-tech effects, but accept it for what it is - a stage production filmed for TV.Read full review
I grew up watching this "play" version of Peter Pan every year on tv in the late 50's early 60's. Although the new animation movies are wonderful, there is nothing like the old versions that capture the hearts of kids. I watched this as soon as I got it, bringing back fond memories for me and decided to share it with my grandkids. I didn't know how they react to this type of movie but to my great surprise, just as I did as a child, they sat and watched-glued to the tv- throughout the whole movie. They even clapped, as I remember doing, to bring Tinkerbell back. I recommend this to anyone who wants to give their children or grandchildren a "piece of the good ol' days." I wish producers would put more plays on video. You can't get this in any stores, so you have to buy it when you see it.
I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid in the 1960s! It is a great musical and Mary Martin still has a great singing voice! I highly recommend this movie!

This movie intrigues the "spirit" pf a child in each one of us. It did so in the early 50's when I first fell in love with Peter Pan, Wendy, tinker-bell, John, Smee and the notorious Captn' Hook. Now that I am in my late 50's, I still find this movie an escape to "neverland". Thank God for the ability to escape in such a fun filled adventure. Good clean fun for all ages. A wonderful delight through the ages.
