I have used these 4/0 Senators for at least 20 years as a San Francisco salmon trolling reel. It is a true blue water ocean reel. I fish 20 lb mono over some heavy backing so I end up with about 2-300 yards of 20 lb. which I feel is perfect for salmon trolling. Drag is consistent, star drag holds settings with ease, reel is easy to maintain, hearty plastic side plates protected by chrome over brass finish trim rings withstands sun and salt with simple washing after each use. Yearly maintenance of clean and grease brass internals is an easy do it yourself project and will keep this reel in working condition for a lifetime. Buy in price of about 100 dollars for cleaner/newer and about 50 for heavily used coupled with parts availability should a problem occur make it an easy decision for me. I currently have at least 6 that I enjoy using.Read full review

As always old school US Made Penn saltwater tackle is hard to beat. I've used these reels since the 80's and as long as they get a freshwater wash down and occasional lube they are almost bullet proof.....
