i remember watching this as a little kid growin up, on saturday mornings. watching them again now, is a total mind blowing trip. pee-wee and all the other characters are all so unique and unforgettable. there's too many to go through them all, but here's a few of my favorites: there's a big lovin' blue sofa that talks; a disembodied blue genie head in a box; the trippy ipad that peewee jumps into every episode and plays connect-the-dots (la-la-la); and of course, you can't forget the stony ass cowboy played by laurence fishburn! c'mon man, it's muthalovin' morpheus in a cowboy costume with a jerry curl yo! this kind of show would never fly in today's self-centered society, but that's probably one of its greatest attributes. pee-wee's playhouse was it's own little universe, not effected or influenced by any outside forces. each of the 45 episodes were adventures into the pure unadulterated imagination of a child (or madman:3). and finally, it wasn't made with any corporate interests in mind, but rather it came directly from the heart. it was a genuine saturday morning kids tv show from the eighties -and if you don't understand that, then you never will.Read full review
I like season one the best. But that may not be for everyone. Floory scares me and I was 28 when I first saw it. Don't like Pterry or Randy, the little thug kid. Though I like the fact that all the characters are one dimension character traits and taken all together they make up PeeWee.Brilliant! Don't much like Penny. She's a hyper slacker(is that possible). Le Hombre I like a little better. Love the cartoon bits."To Spring" is wonderful. I bought the complete series at Ebay price (read shockingly low). Because I don't like every minute, usually between 2 mins and 15. With the complete series there's always something to discover and makes it worth owning. I like little goofy things like when deciding what game to play. Jambi opens up and says "I'm not playing headhunter" and slams his doors. I see Charles Schultz influence. The HBO specials definitely show what older viewers wish it was like and can't be cause it's a kid's show. Word of the day is a great device to make audiences part of the show. I have no kids yet. But I wonder if parents get irate when after the day's show was complete all the day long their kid's screamed when hearing WOTD. Can't imagine kids doing that after watching the DVD's. I wonder tho. I like the times when Pee Wee is engaged in quiet thought. Plus It's a cooking show. Who'd of thunk. I'd be lax if I left out mentioning the shows in the Ice Box. That reminds me of something that would be from vaudville.(that's why I call it Ice Box). Zzybalubah(sp?) is a great episode along with the best morality play(all episodes are morality plays). Like the teaching films from the 50's. Pantomining to songs I also like. I'm usually a lip-syncer hater tho. Can't get enough Go-Go dancing I was just a little kid when that became passe. I have not seen Weird Al's kid show. If I buy that I will review and compare that. Gotta go!Read full review

What's better than having Pee-Wee on VHS? Pee-wee on DVD! Yes I have upgraded and it is absolutely stunning to see Pee-Wee so clearly in the complete series! Blu-ray is in the future of course, but for now I am thrilled to have this awesome set! It even came with the Christmas special! How cool it that?! Sure, Pee-Wee and some of his pals may be creepy...*cough* King of Cartoons *cough....but the fun I had watching him growing up is worth it!
