When I received the drum it looked gorgeous! But that isn't what a drum is for... I tuned the drum up with the existing head. It tuned easily, probably the fastest I have ever tuned a drum. The die cast hoops and excellent bearing edges are probably the reason for that. It had an usual high pitch ring when tuned up so I decided to try a different head. Next head (Evan's Heavy) tunes up just as fast but the sound was too choked. Last, I put on an Evan's HD Genera Dry. Perfect amount of resonance and Pop! And I am still amazed at how easily all three heads tuned. I am a huge fan of Pearl snares, owning 3 Sensitone Elite metal snares, but this was my first Maple snare and my first Masters series from Pearl! Love this drum! I plan on looking into a full Master's kit after this experience.

Beautiful finish and details. Superb sound. I know it's discontinued, but there's nothing in comparison these days for the price. The snare level is not as smooth as it suppose to be, once in a concert it got out of his place.
