I enjoyed the author's previous book "Who Moved My Cheese" because I found it to be a clever introduction of Zen Buddhism tenets to a secular audience. These tenets make sense to me, such as change will happen, often to you, without warning, and most unwelcome. Your emotions will probably flare up but you need to keep a level head and look at the situation pragmatically, and with a level head choose the most viable option. Good stuff. In this book, Peaks and Valleys, I kept searching for something deep or profound, something valuable. Perhaps I missed it? My takeaway, however, is that this book is borderline infantile, written as a parable with very little depth and nothing that would pass as "wisdom". Some of the silly writing about the old man "with a gleam in his eye" or the young man who was astounded by simple, trite realizations reminded me of the The Shack, which I detested for how the characters words and actions were portrayed. The message is pretty simple: life will consist of peaks and valleys. How you view and manage them will help you get through them. I think there are many better ways to convey this than that which the author chose here. And I think there are some helpful insights that are missing. In short: don't expect to get much out of this book. Just re-read Who Moved My Cheese. Read full review

we like this author and really enjoyed "who moved my cheese." This book was another quick and very effective read. He had many good points that pertain not only to our business, but life in general.
I bought the book to use as part of my leadership development training workshops. It's a quick ( 1 hour) read. There is nothing new or earth shattering in the book, but is does give a simple story of how to deal with ups and downs that is especially needed in today's environment.
I liked the overall message in the book. It was rather simple to read and very short. You will be able to read it in less than an hour. If you liked "Who Moved My Cheese", you will like this book.
