I purchased this movie for my six-year-old daughter, and both she and I love it! This is the story of Paulie, a talented talking parrot who's separated from his beloved owner, Maire, after her parents blame the bird for an accident in which Marie falls from the roof. Initially Paulie's taken to a pawn shop, then passed among a series of owners until finally he ends up in an animal testing lab. Banned to the basement, Paulie befriends the building's janitor, telling him his story and wishes of returning to his original owner. The janitor assists Paulie on his mission and eventually Paulie and Marie reunite. Even though Paulie was sent away and not set free, this movie brings to mind the quote by Richard Bach, "If you love someone, set them free. If they return, they're yours." Also, Paulie's determination to return to Maire truly makes this a story about never giving up on those you love. A great movie for all ages.Read full review
Paulie can reach the heart of any age as the lives of a variety of characters of all ages & walks-of-life are portrayed in their life circumstances. There are those who show great integrity & put their own self in jeopardy in order to do the right thing, while others show that self is most important & forfeit integrity for personal gain. The repercussions of being dishonest are clearly taught as the characters weave their way through a web of destruction & broken hearts that follow. One can truely put their own heart right into the thoughts, feelings & emotions of Paulie the parrot & all the human beings who take part in his adventure. Paulie's adventure takes him through a maize of time, trouble & triumph! The viewer's heart will be blessed along the way with laughter, tears & lots of smiles.Read full review
My Granddaughter just loved this movie she laughed so hard but then she cried when the poor bird was stuck in the cage she said she never knew a bird could talk so she went to her canary and started talking to it but didn't understand why it wouldn't talk to her like Paulie did but she still loves the movie and me being her Grandma I got a big hug and kiss and Thank You Grandma now I can watch it any time I want.

Paulie is an intelligent parrot, misunderstood and neglected. He tells the story of his life to Tony Shalhoub and his encounters with humans while searching for Marie, the love of his life. Gena Rowlands, Tony Shalhoub and Cheech Marin are excellent, as usual. It's a fun, family, film. 5 Stars!
