This is a rare and amazing concert! Not only is the music good, but the players are royalty. It is a powerful example of the potential music has to speak the truth and move the soul. This concert is a celebration of freedom, and the music is a celebration of truth. It is a joy to watch, and even if you're not a Paul Simon fan, you probably still won't be able to keep yourself from being moved. This concert is over 20+ years old, and the politics which lurked behind it have changed dramatically. But the music is moving and very few American musicians (especially white ones) could blend their style with the exciting rhythms and language of the African culture the way Simon has. Miriam Makeba -- who had been in exile from her homeland for 27 years because of her political beliefs -- has an inspired presence, as does Hugh Masakela -- also a political exile. Ladysmith Black Mambazo is great. All the "back-up" players are astounding, and Paul is as full of love and humility and sincerity as he could possibly be. He clearly admires their passion and musical talent. This is an excellent musical landmark and worth purchasing.Read full review
Excellent tour and performances. African national anthem great (although not part of the Graceland album). Resolution not great, though
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
This is my first time I have said an " excellant " about any of my purchases. Don't expect a Simon and Garfield type of show. The stage was filled with many quality african singers and musicians. They also showed many beautiful african scenes. It was a tremendous cultural experience for me to watch and listen to and worth the $10.00 I paid for it.
