I waited for this cd to become available at a lesser price, knowing that I would really like it or would not like it at all. Having been a Beatles fan for 42 years, I have come to realize that Paul does his best writing when he has some competition. I found this new cd still sealed on ebay for $5.50 which included the shipping. I am glad I only paid that much. Jenny Wren is OK, and the rest is fluff. Paul is still a very talented musician, as shown by how many instruments he can play and play well. But the songwriting I found to be extremely boring! I last saw Paul in St Louis on his Back in the US tour, and it had to be one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my life. (And I have been to a lot.) Let's hope that he can see the light, and get another band put together with some creative musicians before he goes back in the studio again.Read full review
This album is reminescent of the first McCartney Solo Album. It took a little while for it to grow on me, but finally did. I still like his first Solo album better. I don't see a song on it that stands up to "Maybe I'm Amazed," but Jenny Wren is about as close as it can be, but a lot calmer. Catchy lyrics and some impressive effects or lack of effects make this recording really nice. Not bad for an ex-Beatle. CD's like this make it easier to pay off an ex-wife. The court was extremely generous with Pauls Money. Now he won't be able to buy Bolivia.
I am a huge McCartney fan and I LOVE this CD. Paul plays all of the instruments and the songwriting is outstanding! I believe it is one of his better albums. "Jenny Wren" is awesome, "Too Much Rain" reminds me of The Everly Brothers. PROS-I love all of the songs. Cons-"This Never Happened Before" reminds me of something Barry Manilow (ugh)would write. The song grows on you after awhile but it is still fluff. Worth the Buy!
Let me first start by saying I am a huge Beatle and McCartney fan. So after reading some of the media pre-reviews I was very much looking forward to Paul's new CD. Well, it is a monster disappointment. Gone are the catchy hooks and inspiring craftsmanship we long ago have come to expect from Paul. The songs are drab, slow and dare I say? Boring. Not one upbeat rocker in the lot. Virtually all the songs come across as introspective meanderings that just fall flat. I rate this LP right up there with McCartney II which was filler music from the first track to the last. This? John Lennon said it best in "How Do You Sleep"; "the sound you make is muzak to my ears". Really folks this is elevator music.
I heard an interview on XM with Paul McCartney that reviewed this aldum and it was great. I am a big fan of the beatles and Paul McCartney. This album itself has a couple good songs on it but some of the songs sounded like they were made up by someone in the shower or a long road trip. If the songs were written or performed by any one other than Sir Paul himself they would never have been put on an album. Just download the songs you like from some where and spare yourself.
