This is my first camera (non point-and-shoot) and I absolutely love it! The price was in my budget and the quality is great paired with a great lens purchase! Because I'm a complete newbie, I had difficulty navigating the controls. But to experienced users, it would probably be no problem at all. Overall, I love this camera!

I don't feel qualified to make a comparative review, but in terms of design, features and raw video quality and choices of how you shoot pictures and video this camera can't be beaten. It is expensive for a mirrorless camera but this is because it has professional build quality. Audio input and outputs are a rare find in digital camera. This is not a DSLR as such, it is a DSLM(irrorless) and you rely on monitoring via the screen or digital viewfinder to take pictures. The coverage, result are fairly consistent if the shutter speed is in the normal 1/25-1/125 range, high or low shutter speeds and its just not possible for the software to predict the result in real-time as it would have to sum or divide light capture on the sensor. Still, you get to see your photo and can adjust very fast with the many wheels and manually programmable function buttons so that you can get your photos well exposed very fast after your first test shots. The top of the line panasonic is similarly priced to the amateur/semi-professional Nikon d7100 which is clearly trying to compete. Neither product are full frame sensor, the Nikon is slightly larger but i doubt its video quality can compare. Similarly Nikon still favour still photos over video in product design. Panasonic GH2 had firmware settings you could apply as a "hack" to improve video possibilities way into the broadcast video region - these are amazing with many extra stops of dynamic range noticable. GH3 is likely to in future aquire similar community based firmware "adjustments" or hacks. This is non unique, this idea of patches or hacks to panasonic but it is proof that the engine leaves a lot of room for software upgrades and improvements which the community will develop to improve the usefulness of this product. Great for amateur video/photo gear-heads, not for new users who should go for point and shoot. An LX7 might be a good starting point and then add this GH3 on, you can easily adapt other lenses to the micro 4/3 and that includes Olympus micro 4/3 lenses which are directly compatible - auto focus and all. Micro 4/3 is better bang for buck. Getting good bokey with a smaller sensor is no problem with an f1.8 or macro type lens ... the camera is not super light, but it is very light and sturdy enough to attach big lenses. Price point is lowering to 1099 euros - but beware, European version is gimped to less than 30min max record time due to taxation laws that would affect pricing if a camera is deemed a full video camera. So i bought a Canada/US version - and it doesn't offer 50/25 frame rates, but its still good enough. SangyecomputersRead full review
The Panasonic Lumix GH-3 is excellent camera. It is easy to use while also a very professional quality DSLR. The camera has sophisticated video capabilities while producing outstanding still photographs. I first thought that a 16mb camera would not compare with 24 mb images from Canon and Nikon cameras, but I was wrong. The images are sharp with enough detail to produce reasonably sized prints. I am very satisfied and impressed with this camera.

The GH3 is a major step up from my G5 and my FZ1000 has several features of the GH3. However to have it all in one package is a delight to hold and use. The buttons are spaced out better than my G5 due to the camera being larger but still smaller than most DSLR. The magnesium body and weather sealing are big pluses for using this camera in rough travels with dust and moisture.

You can tell this camera aimed at the pro or prosumer market when it was released a few years back . From the ergonomic design, the materials and the quality of still pictures and videos. Because it is weather-sealed and solid, I bought it on Ebay to take skiing pictures and videos and I am extremely satisfied with the results so far.
