Excellent book, great value
It's a fabulous book with a great story! I wasn't sure what to expect initially as I heard that this was supposed to be a different style than most John Grisham books... I was pleasantly surprised by the way he told this beautiful story. It made me feel like I was able to imagine my own grandfathers story was as a Mexican migrant who came to America for farming work (it was as though I was able to see the discrimination he described in his personal stories as a farmer). Grisham did an excellent job of bringing this realistic story to life! I'm not much of a reader to begin with and I was happy to find out that this was a quick and fun read! I highly recommend this book :) *FYI If your wanting to purchase this audio version, be sure to read the description details very carefully (i purchased this thinking it was an Audio CD disc set. I was surprised when it arrived that it was a Cassette Tape set instead). If you have an iPod or iTunes, I recommend purchasing the audiobook on there instead!!Read full review

Slice of American Pie
Grisham is one of the best writers out there...imho. No 'who done it' or 'courtroom drama' in this one. It's just a study of a family of cotton farmers and all they had to endure. It's set in Arkansas in the fall of 1952. His descriptions of everything always make you feel like your right there, smelling, tasting and feeling it all. Great book by a great writer, not very long, but that didn't take anything away.

I have read every one of Grishams books. You could call me a real fan. I read this book in Oxford Magazine, and I found only one fault in it. It was to short. Yes, it is much different than anything else he has written, but so what, it is a great, yes great book. I can't wait until my 15 year old daughter gets time to read it. I see it as a classic for almost any school kid. Told from the view of this 7 year old boy on a poor farm, it had me from page one, and while it was not a great thriller it was a great story that could not have sounded more real. Do yourself a big time favor and don't pass up this wonderfully told story.

Life's influence on children.
A good book. A story with heart and hard times many endured. Not sure similar still goes on today. One of the few books I would do again.
