i had to add a spring the hi hat did not have enough pull to bring the pedal back in place after stepping on it. without cymbals it works just fine, this in my opinion is a bad design. most other hi hat use a spring system to return the pedal, i paid little, i received little. buy a spring system ! i dont recommend this hi hat although, instead of buying a better hi hat, ... i went to my local auto part picked up a spring and its now working as it should. if you have this problem its a 2 dollar fix.

In terms of build quality it's very flimsy, the clutch mechanism has slop, and the spring that opens the hat is inadequate for anything other then thin, light hi-hat cymbals, I use this stand with Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals and a DW practice pad kit, for that it does ok, if you need something sturdy or roadworthy for gigs and band rehearsals, go with TAMA or Pearl, and expect to pay significantly more.
