I had seen a TV production of this & loved the story. WOW! Was I surprised when I viewed this authentic release of the movie sometime ago! I am so disappointed as the language used was so filled with words that are not acceptable to me so that I can enjoy a story. I know the level of words in such circumstances will produce a questionable level as people react to intense times but couldn't this as a production have had MUCH less. The story line was great & revealing as it was regarding relationships in the war in Viet Nam. The scenes were quite depicting of the terrible situations in which our faithful & patriotic military men & womaen were called upon to perform. Ken Wahl & Cheryl Ladd as medical personnel played their roles well & an occasional scene was not for entire family but on the whole for adults could be handled if only LESS downright 'rough & tough' words used.Read full review
This movie, like "The Boys in Company "C", Full metal Jacket, We Were Soldiers" and a few others, depict the True way things happened during the undeclared war. Even though this one throws in an imaginative yet really unbelievable love story, it tells of how you had to work to get the equipment you needed to do your job. It goes on to tell how a small group of people can get so close to each other in just a short period of time, that they can trust not only their judgment but put their own lives in the hands of these folks as well. The movie typifies how you have to operate in the military to win. I like this movie, and recommend it as well as the ones mentioned above. The ending is fluff, but it does leave you with a feeling that maybe some good can come out of war. For those of you reading this and in the know, my personal chest salad includes one of "Green, Yellow and Red" from RVN. U.S.N. (ret.)Read full review

I have always been a Ken Wahl fan. I have all his "Wiseguy" TV shows!! Also have a lot of his lesser known movies like "The Gladiator". This movie "Purple Hearts" I have watch over and over again. This is a terrific love story and also shows true conditions of war. I had to buy another VHS last year as the one I had wore out. I had been waiting for the DVD version and saw it listed here. So I went to Warner Home Video website and saw it in the archives for $19.95. It states it has not been revised and they just kept as it was on the VHS. So I ordered it and with shipping it came to a total of # 25.74. Just waiting for it to come in. You will love this movie and I remember the first time I watched it I cried and even after all the viewing I have had of it, I still cry on the ending.
I have yet to buy this movie, but am wanting to purchase it. I saw this movie several years ago on tv and just fell in love with it. Cheryl Ladd is just great as well as Ken Wahl. I too cried when I thought Cheryl Ladd's character, died, but I just loved how the movie ended at the VA hospital. Hopefully, this movie will be available on DVD soon. Today is July 11th, 09 and I have since bought Purple Hearts on VHS and once again I was not disappointed in this movie. Loved every minute of it. As far as I know it is still not available on DVD. Thank You!!!! Update on 9/26/10---Finally purchased a VHS of this movie!! Again, a great wartime love story!!
