The SingStar Abba compilation is essentially a collection of Abba's 25 greatest hits and if you're an avid Abba fan, chances are your favorites are here. The compilation spans a large chunk of their career, but doesn't cover it all, so I'm sure some will be disappointed. Unlike some of the other SingStar games, SingStar Abba features mostly a wave of great tracks, as listed further down in the review. Additionally, the PS3 game is cross-compatible with other PS3 versions of SingStar, as well. If you're not familiar with SingStar, here's quick crash course. Singstar uses a very clean user interface, one than even a five year old can navigate. You can either play a practice session, or play for points and attempt to score the best record. Because, karaoking is an activity that you don't normally do alone, feel free to call over another seven friends and compete in an eight-player activity. If you're wondering how SingStar games work, the game's superb voice recognition system will measure the tone and pitch of your voice, and instantly display your performance on the screen, as the vocal bars scroll along. The object is to fill the bars on screen with accuracy by singing as accurately as possible. If you go flat, you'll get color below the bar; likewise, if you go sharp, you'll get color above the bar. It's a very intuitive system, and figuring out how it works doesn't take any longer than 10 seconds. SingStar Abba boasts a collection of 35 tracks from a wide assortment of Abba's work. As I said earlier, unlike other SingStar games where I didn't like every song, finding something I don't like in SingStar Abba would be nit-picking. The entire soundtrack looks like this (songs with asterisks not in PS2 game): "Chiquitita" "Ring Ring" "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)" "SOS" "Take A Chance On Me" "Summer Night City" "Dancing Queen" "Super Trouper" "Does Your Mother Know" "Thank You For The Music" "Fernando" "The Day Before You Came"* "Happy New Year"* "The Name Of The Game" "Head Over Heals"* "The Winner Takes It All" "I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do" "Under Attack"* "Knowing Me Knowing You" "Voulez Vous" "Mamma Mia" "Waterloo" "Money Money Money" "When All Is Said And Done"* "One Of Us" Visually, Singstar features a very simple interface. Everything is neatly laid out, and the music bars scroll across the screen horizontally and smoothly. Unlike, say, Rock Band or Guitar Hero, you won't experience dizziness from following the scrolling notes, and that's a plus. Additionally, the colors are easy on the eyes, too. Lastly, most of the songs were also given their respective music videos, which are played in the background - a definite plus over Singstar's competition. The audio is crystal clean, as you'd expect. Naturally, because size limitation isn't a concern, the songs are all well represented and come through the speakers with pristine clarity. But it is the pitch recognition that really shines here, as the system does a solid job of recognizing every little change in pitch, even the slightest bit of vibrato. Definitely a solid effort by Sony London. All in all the list of songs tells the tale. If you like what you see, Singstar Abba is worth your money. If not, consider the other Singstar options available.Read full review
I bought this game as soon as I realized it was ABBA. I love ABBA and there was no way I could live without it, once I knew of its existance. I never heard of Singstar before, and I believe that I will get more now that I have tried this one. It is easy to set up and play. The mikes work pretty good. Karaoke behind closed doors so I don't have to go out and embarrass myself in Karaoke bars is much more comfortable for me. This would be fun for a get together with family and friends, all you need is a little variety in the music, which I'm planning on getting next. The ABBA singstar game is a GUILTY PLEASURE for me, and a way to channel on my favorite band EVER.
Can't go wrong with ABBA if you want to get a party going. ABBA was such a successful and fantastic band they knew how to get people singing and dancing and have a fun time. Now this PS3 game allows ABBA fans and other folks who like to just sing and perhaps dance and have a fun time and party to experience ABBA at its best!!! One of the BEST items PS3 had to offer! love ABBA!
I bought this as a Xmas gift for my wife. She is a big Abba fan, and this seemed like the perfect gift. I was right. She loves it and has so much fun singing to her favorite Abba songs. Not only does it have the original music, it also has the actual videos. You are scored based on how well you hit the right note and words. If you enjoy a good round of karaoke, and who doesn't, than this is for you. You can also download more songs, for a price, of course, but that means you get more enjoyment out of it.
We bought this game to access the on line content, the price was good, several good songs to sing with my wife in this game, but my mayor objective was reach the playstation store, without this game, you can not get all the content of the store. Of course each song cost 1 usd per song, but worth it.
