So there's no confusion, the I5 irons I talk about here are my exact fit as determined at the Ping facility in Phoenix. I started this process out by buying an I5 gap wedge. Loved it. It seemed that shot after shot would head straight for the pin. I was convinced that these were the perfect irons so I waited (and waited) until my lie/length/stiffness (white,+1/2,zz65 stiff) were available and finally bought a set on eBay. Some background: Handicap - 6, clubs formerly in play - Titleist 775 . What I discovered is that while these are a fine set of irons, they are not what I expected. Although the 775s and I5s have similar offsets I've found that the I5s are much more likely to draw heavily. On the course it seems like I consistently hit greens with both, but was consistently closer to the pin with the 775s. Another observation is that while the so called "feel" difference between forged and cast is problematic, the 775s feel better on perfect shots than the I5s. I'm continuing to experiment with the I5s since they are so consistent. I'm wondering if a different shaft might make a difference. However, I think it's telling that for the tournament I'm playing in this weekend, the 775s are in the bag.Read full review
I bought this ping I5 set a few weeks ago and fell in love after a few rounds. BTW, I'm a 20+ handicap and I play about 2 times a month. With the ping I5, I get the forgiveness of the G5 but without too much offset. I just don't like offset period. This iron is very solid build with great respond. On my miss hit, I don't get alot of vibration or twist like my MacGregor and Wilson FS. I actually hit alot straighter. But the most important thing is confident at the address. I never get that before, but now I do. With the dot system, I get exactly what I'm looking for (or close to) with out custom fit. Since I always buy golf in standard, so this work out much better for me. My only complain is distance wise. I must have lost about 1/2 a club length with this set.
I purchased the Ping i5 irons recently and have put roughly 4 rounds of golf on them so far. I love the distance these irons are producing for me, and if you enjoy ping irons these share that same feel the you are used to. They are smaller than a large oversized cavity back iron, yet still share much of the forgiveness that a oversized iron will give you. All this and you still are not sacrificing the playability of the irons. The one complaint I have with these irons, and all be it rather small is the shape of the club when set up for a shot. It is rather round, a little sharper cleaner look at address would have been nice. Overall I would recommend these irons to any player looking upgrade from a oversized iron but not quite sure about the blades just yet. This club will fit right in the middle and give you the best of both worlds.Read full review
Ping Golf makes the best golfing products in the work, in my opinion. There's no disputing they last longer, retain value longer and have Ping's famous customer service bakcing every product they sell. Ping makes golf equipment for every type of player, beginner and game improvemet (the G series, G15 woods & irons). There are Tour pros using Ping's game improving equipment, and some of the best players in the world bet there carreers on them. Bubba Watson comes to mind.
I purchased a set of I5's and they are by far the best feeling, longest irons I have ever hit. If you are looking for a super forgiving iron, try the G5. The I5 is a little less forgiving due to the smaller head from heel to toe, but the feel is more crisp. It is also a easier club to work the ball. As with all Ping products, never buy off the rack. Ping has the best club fitting system in the business - spend the time and money to get fitted correctly. You will be glad you did.
