I bought my first of these makers many, many, many years ago. After many, many, many years of devoted service, it started leaking, which is what happens to all of us. Philips had long since discontinued the model, so I was forced to try other brands. I bought about half a dozen other makers, some of which were on the pricey side, and all made coffee that was laughably weak. Luckily, I found a nos of my old Philips. Wonderful, wonderful, but if you break the carafe, oy! Nearly impossible to find a replacement. I did locate one, in Greece, for $45, and I nearly bought it. Luckily, luckily, I found a whole nos maker for less than the price of the carafe. So, I now have two of these makers, one carafe, and I'm praying I don't break the good carafe. I've never found a carafe by any other company that fits quite right. If you like coffee strong, this is for you. If you use the "strong" setting, it brews slowly, so patience is necessary, but well worth it. Twelve minutes for four cups, which isn't all that long, but which is far longer than the "I want it the day before yesterday" theme of the 21st Century, which replaced the "I want it yesterday" mantra of the 20th Century. If you use the "not strong" setting, it's probably about as fast as most others.Read full review

This model only brews 2 different sizes-- 1 and 2 cups-- so I have to select 2 cups and turn it off after about 1.5 cups. Also, the cup height is not adjustable. Finally, there was no instruction booklet. However, its pressure brewing system still makes infinitely better coffee than a Keurig. Try pods fro CoffeeFools. Philips, please make more models for the USA.

Love this coffee maker - it makes a really good cup of coffee in about one minute! Just fill the resevoir in the back with a little bit of water, wait about 30 seconds for it to heat up, and with the press of a button, the coffee comes out with a nice froth on top. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the coffee pods can be a bit more expensive than traditional coffee, and they can also be hard to find sometimes. On the bright side, though, you can use any brand coffee pod up to 10 oz, or you can actually make your own pods by putting a coffee filter in a 1/4 cup measuring cup, spooning a few spoonfuls of regular coffee in there, and then folding the filter over the top. If you youtube it, there are a few videos showing you how to do it (so simple, it takes me less than thirty seconds to make a pod). This can save you alot of money. The other downside is that if you are used to drinking BIG cups of coffee, this machine only makes an 8 ounce cup, and that is by doing a two cup brew. One cup of coffee, in SenseoLand, is 4 ounces. I usually take a 24 ounce cup to work with me! So you will be using more than one pod if you like a big cup of joe. Overall, though, I can't say enough about how easy this machine is to brew coffee, and how good the coffee actually tastes. And the fact that you can easily make your own pods if you run out of storebought pods makes this a better choice, in my opinion, than the machines that need those K-cups.Read full review
Just got one of these machines here on Ebay for a great price. I like others am a review nut, at least reading them. There were so many positives, and a lot of negatives, not too many in between. I said, for this price I gotta do it. I am NOT a coffee snob at all. I grew up and drank supermarket brand instant for 15 years. I want coffee in the morning because it is hot, and it has 65mg + of caffeine. My recent single cup brewer recently broke, so I needed something fast. Onto the review Timing: From pressing button to heat water, to ready to drink coffee is 90 seconds or so. That was THE BIGGEST reason I bought the machine. Want a quick fix, this machine is for you. End results: Most reviews said that the Senseo coffee is not the best, and for the most part I agree. But that being said, I was an instant coffee drinker and it was good enough for me. Price of pods: I recently purchased the Eco Pad from Ebay (yet to receive them) so I can not offer my review on those. What I did do is purchase Folgers Pods, classic and decaf and with some creamer and sweetener (Splenda) I loved it. I dont give a damn about Euro style coffee, crema shmema, self griding beans BLECK. Barista whatever. THe machine makes a tasty cup of coffee for a nice tasting caffeine fix, it looks mint and for the price I paid. Worth every penny. I will be researching buying pods in bulk for savings and hope that works well. I paid $26 shipped, so if you can find a deal like that, and do not like the machine, no big loss. I reccomend trying a different Pod then the provided ones before final judgement.Read full review
Too bad they don't make these any more, because this is the best single-serve coffee maker I've had. Brews quickly, coffee is really hot, and you can buy decent coffee pods for it. Was not a fan of the big-name cup brewers, mostly due to cost and size. The only downsides to the Senseo are (1) if you like cups of coffee larger than 6 oz and/or like your coffee strong, you have to use two pods per cup, which adds up; and (b)the brewer is a bit on the loud side once it starts to make coffee. Maybe this is just because I bought a used machine, but the noise is noticeable. Fortunately it doesn't last long as it's pretty quick from start to coffee. Just hope this holds up over the long haul. I don't use it every day, just when I want coffee and don't want to make a whole or partial pot. I'm the only coffee drinker in my house.Read full review
