I've never read a Barbara Delinsky book before, because I thought she was a romance writer and romance is not really my thing -- at least, not when it comes to books. But this book was chosen by my book club and so I read it. Chelsea Kane is the usual beautiful, thin, rich heroine. She also happens to be just the nicest person you'd ever want to meet. Excuse me while I gag. Yes, I'm sure there are beautiful women out there who are also nice, but I don't want to dwell on them. I want to think that niceness is the purview of us unattractive women. But Chelsea Kane is all that and more. So the book didn't start out on a great note for me. However, I did become interested in the story line as it went along. As the book opens, Chelsea's adoptive mother has just died and, after the reading of the will, her attorney hands her a key inside an envelope which gives the name of the town Chelsea was born in. Against her adoptive father's wishes, Chelsea decides to go and seek out information about her birth parents. Norwitch Notch is portrayed as a small town full of small-minded, ultra-conservative people not usually friendly to strangers. There is, of course, the ruggedly handsome and sexy love interest. The plot has a few twists and the ending, while a bit predictable, contained a few surprises. All in all, it was a pleasant read.Read full review
