Like any great myth, Pan's Labyrinth encodes its messages through displays of magic. And like any good fairy tale, it is also embroidered with threads of death and loss. The performers are all good with Baquero poised and beautiful as Ofelia and Verdu vital and spirited as the rebellious Mercedes. Lopez gives an extraordinary performance as the bestial captain, an irredeemable villain to rank with Ralph Fiennes' Nazi in "Schindler's List." Very good movie.
Wow. Made in 2006. A true fairy tale for adults, ergo is there a happy ending? I won't say. In Spanish, as it's based on Franco's Spain in 1944. Has English subtitles. Engaging, good effects, good acting. Not hurried, not sluggish. I enjoyed it.

Communist propaganda and revisionist history masquerading as a fantasy horror tale. I can't believe so many people gave this mental diarrhea such high marks. Disgusted and disillusioned with this work.
