This book is a compilation of blood glucose tests of various food Dennis Pollock, a pre-diabetic and his wife Benedicta, a not a diabetic, have taken to help people determine what might spike their blood sugar and what may help manage their diabetes. There are some sample meals and tips too. Another tool in my arsenal. What works for you might not work for others. Some do well of vegan/vegetarian, paleo, Mediterranean, carnivore etc. Only your blood glucose can tell you if the diet is working or not. You also have to consider other things, some are vegans for religious or ethical reasons for example. For me I tried vegan and it didn't work. I follow the principles Dennis and other has shown on his YouTube channel Beat Diabetes! which is a low carb diet keto type diet with timed eating and some fasting. My labs came back in April and my fasting glucose was 244, I had an A1c of 10.2. In June after experimenting and using the low carb diet with some intermittent fasting my morning blood glucose is in the 90's and 80's. I have also been able to keep my after levels below 130 and lost 20 pounds. Dennis' channel has a lot of the info you need, but his books organize the materials. Just a note, Dennis runs a ministry so there's some Christian talk in his book and at his channel which some don't care for. Personally I think people need to listen to the information that's going to help them manage their diabetes. Also recommend Dr. Sarah Hallberg, Dr. Jason Funy, Dr. Richard Bernstein, Dr. Ken Berry, there's a lot of docs out there now dispelling the dogma and mysths.Read full review

I bought this book with the anticipation that I would be able to glean some expertise advise on controlling my blood sugar. I found the author to be pompous, self righteous and closed to how others many adjust their lifestyle based on their needs. If Dennis choses to eliminate fruit from his diet because he has some preconceived notion that fruit is bad, that is his opinion, not that of the Canadian or American Diabetic Association. Any person can live on the Aiken's diet of high fat and protein and lose weight but perhaps some serious long lifestyle changes could be made to incorporate a good selection of all the food groups. I think that Mr. Pollock should evangelize about his "word" according to the gospel and leave nutritional advise to the experts. It is wonderful to love yourself so much to write a book but I really didn't need the sermon about his way being the only way OR the best way.Read full review
