Organic chemistry is like trying to learn Japanese, Russian, and Navaho code at the same time. While trying to shit out napalm. This book gives you a great balance of detailed pictures coupled with text that teaches you the 'why' before the 'what'. So far I'm only through chapter 7, but I'm chugging along and the subjects get more interesting with every page. This is hands down the best choice if you want to learn the basics of organic chemistry.
i've read a few chemistry books, and so far, mcmurry seems to be the easiest to read. there are a few mistakes in the answers in the back, and possibly a different of opinion in some of the text, but for the most part, it took less than hour per chapter to read. all easy reading. mcmurry does a great job of breaking up the text with figures and tables and charts. personally..this made learning o chem a bit easier for me.
Well into the 7th chapter and I really like this book. Things are explained well, and the diagrams are very illustrative! I also have the study quide with answers and it is extremely helpful!
If you enjoy chemistry this is a great book and needed for most classes.
