These two entries in the MyReportLinks.com series offer facts plus a wealth of Web-site sources for more information. A password inside each book will give readers access to many helpful links posted on the series' Web site. Five-page lists of annotated Web sites lead off each volume, followed by an overview chapter and subsequent sections on land and climate, government, geography, and history. Oregon includes a chapter on interesting Oregonians. The books mix contemporary tourism-style coverage with historical anecdotes--for example, there's information about the Whitman massacre in Oregon and the opening of the Santa Fe Trail in New Mexico. The page design simulates a Web-page screen, and, unfortunately, most of the photos are screen shots from Web pages, which reduces their quality significantly. The information and sources, however, will be just the thing for reports and research. Chapter notes and a bibliography conclude each volume., Booklist February 1, 2003
