This is the first book in the Stephanie Plum series & it kicks off with a big bang! Stephanie Plum takes a job as a bounty hunter in her cousin Vinnie's firm and one of her first cases is to bring in Joe Morelli (a very sexy Italian cop) who is wanted for murder. What happens next are some of the funniest scenes I have ever read. She has a crazy family, a hamster and a very sexy mentor. I have the whole series and I'm still as hooked now as I was when I first read this 6 years ago.

This was one of my first adult books that I read when I was a teenager. The plot is good, the story is well-written and compelling. I can't wait to reread it after all these years.

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich is such a great book! I first found out about it while going to the NICU at the hospital three times a day to care for and spend time with my son who was born prematurely. One of the nurses there was telling me about the zany adventures of Stephanie Plum. I bought the book and was completely hooked! One for the Money introduces us to Stephanie Plum, a laid-off lingerie buyer who virtually blackmails her bailsbondsman uncle into letting her try bounty hunting, of all things. With a sidekick she picks up along the way, Lula, she fumbles and bumbles along and actually catches a few "skippers." Part of what makes One for the Money (as well as the other books in the series) so appealing is that it features an ordinary woman (just like you and me) who tries hard. She is funny without meaning to be and also happens to catch the eye of two very goodlooking but different men in her life. This, of course, brings about plenty of physical situations for us to read about! :) If you like strong women characters and mystery / thriller / danger / excitement / adventures / etc., as well as humor and romance, this book is for you! Welcome to the world of Stephanie Plum!Read full review
I started my Janet Evanovich collection of Stephanie Plum's bounty-hunter series of books on a whim and once I started, I couldn't put them down. I've read the first nine of her Plum series, the Christmas Plum - "Visions of Sugar Plums", and her collaboration with Charlotte Hughes in writing "Full House and Full Tilt." In book one (of 11), Janet introduces us to Stephanie Plum, a cute, sassy, Jerseyite who is out of work, low on money and her car is in repo. Next, we meet Cousin Vinny, who owns his own business - bailbondsman, in other words "bounty-hunter." Then there's Grandma Mazur, Stephanie's ever-loving, goofy, gun-toting, stun-gun carrying grandmother who moved in with Stephanie's parents when Grandpa Mazur's fat-clogged arteries sent him to the big pork roast in the sky. Lula, an ex-prostitute who is trying desperately to turn her life, around soon joins the agency. Joe Morelli (a vice cop on the run for murder one charges). Ranger, the suave know-it-all-can't-be-touched-doesn't-play-by-the-rules bounty hunter and Connie, Vinnie's secretary. Stephanie's first assignment is to bring in Joe Morelli. What she doesn't know, she will quickly learn. She finds herself in her first encounter with the sleazy Benito Ramirez, the prize-fighter as he states "what the champ wants, the champ gets" (and of course he is not likely to help Stephanie find and bring down Joe). Grandma Mazur wants to join in the hunt for the fun of it, and Stephanie reluctantly agrees to have her tag along. Of course, Granny wants to bring her trusty gun for "protection" and of course, she's never used one either and what happens next...will have you rolling on the floor. Stephanie's use of automobiles is another laugh a minute. I never knew one person could have such a jinx over her head as Stephanie does with cars. Janet is the kind of writer who keeps you wanting to turn pages with belly laughs a minute.Read full review
Being from New Jersey myself (and a book Seller) I decided I should read of Ms. Evanovich's books. One For The Money was light, enjoyable and a "quick" read. The characters are well-developed with light-hearted personalities; Stephanie the main character is a smart wise cracking bounty hunter. She constantly mentions her weight and eating and other "issues" facing most women. I like to see that in a character, it makes them more believable. All in all, a great book to read at the beach or on vacation.
