    Not a fix all- but take what you can get

    The main goal of this book is to get your baby sleeping through the night (at least 8 hours straight). I liked the tone of the book. It seemed practical and logical without a lot of fluff. It was encouraging and enphasized the uniqueness of each infant and how parenting styles can vary (including variances between siblings). On Becoming Babywise touches on infants' natuaral sleep/eat patterns. It teaches the parent how to use the baby's natural rhythm to develop good sleeping habits. I read several books when my daughter was about 3 weeks old and we were at our wits end. The first that I read was The Baby Whisper by Tracy Hogg. Hogg addresses parents in a conversational manner using pet names like "lovey," "dear heart," and "precious" to name a few. The tone was very much like Mary ...

    Babywise: not scripture but helpful

    My first suggestion is to buy a newer edition of the book. It has been revised several times and the older ones are alot stricter and have had to be changed to to medical advise. I used this book on my first child and found that she was able to fall into the routine described by Ezzo at about 7 weeks and a few days later slept through the night. Ezzo emphasizes that if you the baby is hungry before it is "time" to eat then feed them. We had a peacful child and alot more sleep. My one warning is that this book is not scripture and if your baby is harder to schedule or has other health issues then be flexible with them and don't think you are failing as a parent. My second child was 10 lbs at birth and only wanted to eat every 2 1/2 to three hours from the beginning but despite being on ...

    On Becoming Babywise

    This book was exactly what I needed to figure out what to do with my babies when I brought them home from the hospital! The advice was so helpful, and got my kids sleeping through the night around 8 weeks. This book took a great deal of stress out of parenting. And contrary to what some other reviews said, the book encourages you to deal with your baby individually, and parent in love. Some have gotten a bit of a mixed up view of this method, but I found it to work beautifully with my kids. And there is a lot less crying in our house than in the houses of my friends who do not have a schedule for their babies. Some routine is necessary to get baby's digestive systems on track, establish good milk flow for nursing mothers, make sure babies get all of the nutritious hind-milk, make sure ...

    On Becoming Babywise

    Book was informative on schedules/routines/bedtimes with babies and how to structure your everyday. It provided information on crying it out and how to practice this appropriately. Gave lots of data on studies done on babies who have a schedule and those who are not feed/sleep on a schedule.
