We spend a lot of time in the outdoors and wilderness and have had problems with keeping other cameras clean, dry, and available. The TG-4 doesn't need to be packed away or in a special case to survive our trips. It can be out and ready to catch photos that would otherwise have been lost. The TG-4 is very easy to use with intuitive controls and friendly operational modes. The iAuto mode does a good and fast job of setting the camera for the best photo under varying conditions. The two custom modes are very nice. I like to take panoramic photos, so one is always set for that. The other is generally set for interval shooting. If you want a bit more control, the Scene mode allows for the fast selection (and retention) of all of the cameras sub modes - nice for special times like sunrise, sunset, or nighttime where you don't have to keep resetting the camera each time it is turned on. The extreme macro (Microscope) mode works very well - focuses fast at what you want it to focus on and takes nice crisp photos. I haven't used the aperture priority or underwater modes yet, but they are nice options to have. The HD movie mode works well with just a one button press. When there is adequate light the movies are crisp. I have had a problem with losing focus in low light will capturing a movie, though. Battery life has been very good, roughly 500 photos and movies, but we are easy - the flash is usually turned of in favor of natural light. All in all it is the perfect primary camera for our trips.Read full review

I've read good reviews from different websites. However, this camera is not meeting my expectations. During the dry trips, the picture quality is just so so. I bought this camera for my trip to Cairns snorkeling. This camera leaked water into it when I jumped into water. I could not take a single picture. Very disappointed.

I do a lot of traveling and I need a pocket camera that comes as close in picture quality and flexibility to a DSLR as possible. I tried a number of others and was disappointed. Some were too big and bulky to be considered pocket cameras and others that were small enough just didn't cut it. Then I got this beauty. It lacks a bit in flexibility but it was not designed for studio work. It was designed for and delivers beautifully all the essentials for traveling and adventure photography. One feature that I absolutely love is the microscope settings. That's right, it doesn't do just macro but micro also. I have never seen anything like it. The picture quality in all other modes is great, way better than most, but in micro mode it's incredible! You simply have to see it to believe it. The only real disappointment is the video mode. It's a bit noisy, especially when zooming. You can easily hear the zoom motor. But there are other cameras for that like the Olympus Tough TG-Tracker. I couldn't overstate the unbelievable value of this Olympus TG-4 camera. It's Olympus "Tough" in so many ways!Read full review

It surprises me that Olympus is really the only camera maker to made a 'good' waterproof small camera. Still disappointing is the lack of zoom options on tuff small cameras. I was spoiled by a Panasonic with great zoom, but as a sailor, I lost too many shots by the malfunctioning wet Panasonic. The Panasonic also had better low light abilities, but the lack of waterproof kills it for me. Also traded a TG 620 for this new TG-4. The TG-4 is a little easier to use, but a little less zoom, so only a 4 star and for value, not sure worth the extra cost over the 620. Just wish someone would made a high zoom, good low light, waterproof camera.

This is our second TG, the first being a TG - 2. We went with a TG 4 because my wife wants the RAW picture capability. There are some changes like the power on button and the zoom to acclimate to, but the controls seem improved in ease of use overall. We have had zero problems with our TG-2 and hope the TG-4 is as good. The main reason we have a TG is that it swims! My wife is a snorkel nut and she takes thousands of pictures annually, and the TG keeps on going, unaffected by salt water (we do rinse it, of course). Our TG -2 has not leaked. If it get sand on it, we wash it off in the ocean. It has a lot of different settings for scenes, such as underwater, landscape, and many more, all easy to access. The settings are easily learned if you play with it a bit. The underwater pictures are excellent quality, colors right. These amaze many people, that you don't need an expensive camera to take great underwater snapshots. The on-land pictures are great, which you'd expect. You do want to have lens cleaner on your trip, and that's all the maintenance ours has needed.Read full review
