Great picture quality for a 4mp camera. Easy to connect to computer or printer. I have very limited computer skills and I figured it out. I'd definately recommend it as a 2nd or backup camera. I like how the lens is protected by the sliding cover. I also like the size, it is a little bigger than most cameras now. I love the quick view function. I always take mine on vacation. I put it in my purse and don't have to worry about scratching the lens. Only drawback is the screen size is small and not as sharp compared to what is available now and it is getting difficult to find the xd cards in stores. I think it is a great older digital camera.
It takes over 15 seconds for this camera to boot itself before a photo can be taken. It will shut itself down in a short period of time requiring the 15 second long re-boot. This usually occurs when a great photo opportunity is passing by after the camera has been turned on. The photo quality is great and outweighs the aggravation of missing a good shot. I don't know if this is a foible with this specific camera or if the model D-580 normally operates like this. I've had a C-350 Olympus camera, a predecessor to this model, which was much more friendly to use. I got this D-580 for a song on e-bay; maybe its unfriendly performance led to its being put up for sale.

The one I used for 20+ years provided great images and I hope this one will also. The old one had a delay between pushing the button and the shutter clicking. haven't used this one enough to tell yet. Needed to replace camera after card contacts bent when forcibly removing card that came apart.

I bought this camera for my 10 year old granddaughter. I bought it because I still use one just like it and now she can use the Camedia Program on my computer. Plus, it's a decent little camera and takes very good pictures. The lens cover isn't the best feature but it's doable. The size of the camera is a good fit for handling. Feels much better in; your hand than all of the extra slim pocket cameras that have come out since. These cameras are outdated but work better than some of the newer models.
had one like this for many years until the obsolete XD256 mb card died this new replacement takes excellent photos under 1mb size
