I rented this movie for free from my local library and found myself watching it only when I had absolutely nothing else to watch. The reason being is that I am not a big fan of Eva Longoria and to be honest she's annoying to watch. All her roles seem to be the same and it gets old... very old.. to watch. However, I am glad that I did watch this movie because even though she didn't fail to annoy watching, the other three main characters in the movie made it enjoyable. First you have Paul Rudd who plays the "widowed-fiance" in the movie who is unahppy after his soon to be bride (played by Eva Longoria) was killed by a freak accident on their wedding day. Then there is the psychic/caterer played by Lake Bell. Finally, there is Jason Biggs playing Lake Bell's gay catering partner. In the beginning of the movie, you see Longoria and Rudd getting ready for their wedding day. Longoria plays the typcial control freak snob role to a perfect "T". While in a bit of an argument with the ice sculptor carver, Longoria dies in a freak accident just hours before the wedding was to take place. She obviously dies and leaved her poor broken hearted fiance behind. Because of his desolance, his sister takes him to see a psychic friend of hers played by Lake Bell. Let's just say that the visit was other-wordly and his fiance (the dead one) decides she is still on earth to protect him. Without giving away too much of the movie, you probably can imagine the fury the dead fiance felt when the psychic and her fiance start developing feelings for each other. The twists and turns and many laughs make this movie worth watching even if Eva Longoria is in it. Just don't buy it as it's one of those you will want to watch only once. Go to the library and rent it for free. And those of you who loved Jason Biggs in American Pie, you will find his character in this movie to be the same endearing and clumsilly funny character that he played in American Pie... just a little more, uh, gay.Read full review
I was totally bummed when I missed this one in the theatres- the trailers looked so promising and I just love Eva Longoria (of course, Desparate Housewives) and Jason Biggs (American Pie)- so I was first in line when it came out on DVD. Although the premise is good, you know, the ex-fiance ghost (Longoria) haunting the new girlfriend, what absolutely KILLED this movie (in my opinion) was the surprisingly ROTTEN ACTING!!! Now there were some other things about the plot that were not exactly believable (aside from the haunting, that is), like the fact that the new girlfriend/psychic was also catering LARGE, fancy weddings out of her TINY apartment (I think that's illegal in some states, lol) and the ridiculousness of the otherwise serious boyfriend (Paul Rudd) whenever filmed in his professional role as a vet... In my opinion these things could definitely have been overlooked (this is supposed to be a comedy after all) if not for the POOR ACTING which seemed to accentuate every weakness in the storyline and every joke that didn't quite make it... there was just no way around that one! Now Longoria was GREAT and so was Biggs- no disappointments there. The other actors and actresses were OKAY. But unfortunately the fly in the ointment for me was the new girlfriend/psychic/caterer, played by Lake Bell. In this role she reminded me of a brainless, annoying, stereo-typical valley girl (sorry) and no matter how hard I tried I could not make myself like her. In fact, her character was portrayed as the polar opposite of the one played by Longoria. It left me wondering HOW IN THE HECK the boyfriend could possibly be attracted to BOTH of them. Definitely a chick flick. My husband fell asleep about 10 minutes in (& refused to wake up until it was over). This might work for the tweeners or if you REALLY, REALLY love Longoria or one of the other actors. Otherwise... definitely RENT before you buy.Read full review
This film was pretty good. The storyline was very predictable though and not that funny, at least not what I was hoping for. It had it's funny moments with one hilarious scene that made the movie for me! I found that Eva's acting was terrible and felt as thought I was watching a stage play at times. Jason Bigg's was my favorite, always funny and seems to just fit right in with these little comedies. If you're up for a few laughs and you're a fan of any of the actors, go ahead and buy this. It's much cheaper to buy on eBay then to rent these days!! But if you want to watch a ghost comedy that is really worth your while, buy Ghost Town starring Greg Kinnear - Amazing! I give this one 3.5 stars out of 5.
Overall it was actually better then I expected but not by much. This was like a hybrid of How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and Just Like Heaven. A typical romantic comedy with its moments I guess. The movie was quite short though (around 85 min.), but it was enough to tell the whole story, build some character development, and have a decent happy ending. The whole idea of a ghost haunting its former husband was a interesting plot to follow. Eva did a good job of keeping up the sarcasm and Paul Rudd and the rest of the supporting cast (especially Jason Biggs) kept the laughs coming at a smooth pace. Overall I liked the movie only because it had a good amount of laughs to keep me going otherwise I would have given this movie a lower rating. Hey, its a chick flick and I'm reviewing this movie from a guy's perspective. It would be more of a fair fight if females reviewed this movie and gave there thoughts about it.Read full review
"Over Her Dead Body" may not have been a completely original film premise, though it had me laughing from beginning to end. Eva Longoria portrayed a deceased, but jealous fiance who still manages to bring her jealousy to life from the grave. The film of course has a moral to the story. It makes Eva's character look beyond her own emotions and see the feelings of others involved. It also holds the hope of moving on after losing someone who you were deeply in love with. All-in-all, a very good film. I highly recommend it.
