This is a beautiful and moving production of a true story -- the lives of a Jewish attorney, his wife and daughter who fled Germany in 1938, emigrating to Kenya (at that time called British East Africa), where they struggled to manage a farm with no skills but with the help of kind and competent Africans. The impact of the movie partly derives from the truth of the situation and partly from the excellent script and acting. It's not surprising that this movie won awards!

Shot in Africa...the cinematography alone is worth seeing. A story of a Jewish family escaping Nazi Europe to reside in an African country until it is safe to leave. This movie reveals the strength and goodness of the human spirit. Living together, growing as a person, making unexpected relationships in a world of turmoil. German language with English Subtitles...won a best Foreign Film Oscar. Superb.
I found it is interesting as it fits in with my family history .Really well done .Encompasing all facets of life as we should all be with out predudice or racial discrimination
We were interested in the fact that it took place in german, but with only German language, even with the written words, we were lost. Watching the movie and reading is not enjoyable at all. so it was a waste of our time & money.
