Enemies are forced into an uneasy alliance as a matter of survival in this affecting World War II drama starring Frank Sinatra as a Marine medic. Stranded after crash-landing with his squad on a Pacific atoll with a marooned Japanese garrison, Capt Bourke (Clint Walker) reaches an aggreement with Lt. Kuroki (Tatsuya Mihashi) the Japanese commander, to share provisions and water. However, mounting distrust threaten the truce as hatreds appear on both sides. A good movie that WWII devotees will enjoy as well as students of Classic movies-and will fill an nights entertainment for drama lovers also. Although Sinatra played in many movies, this is the only one that he ever directed & starred in both.
This is not a run of the mill war movie . Unwilling Japanese commander nonetheless loyal to imperial orders & his nation meets and eventually declares a truce with allies . Being stranded on an isolated atoll the men see human qualities present in both sides . The climax comes when they must choose loyalty with new friends or solidarity with their own nation . This is a very good , entertaining movie . I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to consider war from a different view point than usually portrayed . Frank Sinatra did a great job working on the making of this as well as starring in it .

I am an old school World war ll and 1950's scifi movie buff. Movie shows both the American and Japanese perspectives of the war. I am also a big Clint Walker fan.
