About this product

Product Information

INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER - Pulitzer Prize winning author presents the stories of a wide range of Muslim women in the Middle East. As an Australian American and an experienced foreign correspondent, Brooks' thoughtful analysis attempts to understand the precarious status of women in the wake of Islamic fundamentalism. "Frank, enraging, and captivating." - The New York Times Nine Parts of Desire is the story of Brooks' intrepid journey toward an understanding of the women behind the veils, and of the often contradictory political, religious, and cultural forces that shape their lives. Defying our stereotypes about the Muslim world, Brooks' acute analysis of the world's fastest growing religion deftly illustrates how Islam's holiest texts have been misused to justify repression of women, and how male pride and power have warped the original message of a once liberating faith. As a prizewinning foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal , Geraldine Brooks spent six years covering the Middle East through wars, insurrections, and the volcanic upheaval of resurgent fundamentalism. Yet for her, headline events were only the backdrop to a less obvious but more enduring drama: the daily life of Muslim women.

This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is in better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you.

Item is complete and 100% as described. Shipping was reasonable and item packaged well and arrived 100% intact though-out the shipping process. I would purchase from this seller again! Note: My 3 star rating for seller communications is due to the fact the seller and I did not communicate outside the simple transaction. I am sure that the seller would communicate well if the need existed. The "3 Star" rating on communication in no way applies to the seller. It represents a "Null" value.

Good Ole Decluttr Store. I've been buying from them for many years. They have 100% feedback with me (lesser feedback on eBay probably due to whiny complainers under age 40 - getalife.com). Items always well priced, exactly as described, well packed, shipped promptly with FREE Shipping. Never once have I given <100% grade. Will continue to fill my music library with Decluttr Stores help! A+, Excellent eBay store!

  • Nine Parts of Desire

A bit dated, copyright 1995, but terrific insight into the lives of Islamic women. Writing is very good. I chose to read all Geraldine Brooks has written since reading "March". She does not disappoint. The author has lived in the Middle East and her experiences and research appears to be right on. She keeps you engaged in her reporting. Much of what she writes about has been reported in other media and, therefore, the honesty of her writing is affirmed. I recommend this book.

  • Fascinating and informative.

This dealer was easy to find, I did not have to search for it and there was a buy now price which I love about ebay. I am not one to gamble/bid, so the buy now makes it easy and fun for my to purchase with. I had to buy the book because my dog ate my original one and the campus bookstore want 15 bucks for the book.
