Abigail Breslin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) teams up with Gerard Butler (300) and Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs) in this fun for the entire family adventure. The movie is based on the novel by by Wendy Orr about a young girl who lives on a remote Island with her father (Butler) who goes missing. Nim seeks help finding here missing father from explorer Alex Rover, who is really Foster. The store unfolds from there and they are off on an exciting journey. Breslin gives another wonderful performance and Foster looks like she enjoyed the role she played in the movie. The movie is recommended for the entire family and I believe the entire family will enjoy this one. Rated 4 of 5 for a great story, great acting and family fun.
Anything can happen on Nim's Island, a magical place ruled by a young girl's imagination. It is an existence that mirrors that of her favorite literary character, Alex Rover - the world's greatest adventurer. But Alexandra, the author of the Rover books, leads a reclusive life in the big city. When Nim's father goes missing from their island, a twist of fate brings her together with Alexandra. Now they must draw courage from their fictional hero, Alex Rover, and find strength in one another to conquer Nim's Island. If you have any children or the child you once were still lives inside you somewhere, then you should definitely see Nim's Island. Wonderful Little Kid - Big Kid Movie.
Being a HUGE Jodie Foster fan, I am NEVER disappointed with ANY of her movies. I watched this at night and felt as though I was transported into the film! It was absolutely enchanting! The three stars MADE the movie and worked very well off each other. Jodie takes on yet ANOTHER difficult role and not only nailed it but added humor; incredible. When it began the effects were different in not what I am used to as far as the present day technology. As the subject matter drew me in, I was sold on the effects by the end. What I enjoyed the most was how it was VERY obvious that no animals were harmed - you could see that many effects were used to bring them alive and to motion. I ended up looking for the children's story writer and will buy her books too!! I recommend this one HIGHLY for natural child enchantment and action, even a fantastic learning opportunity by placing emphasis on reading and how adventurous it can be for all!! I really enjoyed this movie on TV, then decided to buy it. All the characters were likeable as well as the actors who were in it-even the animals. The screenwriter and director were able to make the viewers understand the ingenuity of the father and daughter of making a life while living on the island along with its perils. It was nice to see Mr. Butler stepping up to the plate, so to speak, working with the animals and a child. The only thing that would have been able to make it even better would be more special features; but I understand how a budget can be a substantial influence.
My family loved all the animals and alternate living style. This movie was the modern equivalent of yesterdays, "Swiss Family Robinson." The characters were relateable and the comedic relief made this movie a movie kids of all ages can enjoy. I bought this movie because my 4 year old daughter couldn't watch it enough when we rented it. She loves animals and there was no short supply of those in this movie. My only problem is that now she is desperatly trying to get us to buy her a lizzard.
