This is a nice, light telephoto lens that has lightning-quick focus and produces tac-sharp images. I think it's all plastic, but who cares? It works just great!. The VR is fantastic, allowing you to produce very sharp, contrasty images with the lens wide open and at slow shutter speeds. I wish it would have added a stop or two, at least to 3.5, but if it were so, the lens would not be so affordable. As it is, on a reasonably bright day, you are going to get some shots that will look as though they were done on a pro lens. You might have to be a little more gentle putting on and removing the lens, since the mount is plastic, but the quality of the images you get and the very affordable price, make it a bargain in my book. I use it on a D7100 and I have gotten some incredible bird and wild life shots. I am very, VERY pleased with this lens! FIVE STARS.Read full review

I bought this for a trip to Iceland. I have three Nikon bodies. D7000, D5100, and D90. Lends does not work with any of them–will not focus. So I bought a D5600. The lens focuses, but my Lightroom and Photoshop will not recognize the RAW files it produces. JPEGs are ok, but serious photography demands RAW. So then I do not know if the product is sharp or a good value and certainly not durable. However, it is Nikon and I still have my first Nikon F from 1966. No film any more, of course, but the camera still works.

I am new to digital photography but have researched it pretty intensely before taking the leap. This lens was one that caught my eye since it was rated well online, was not too pricey and had the range I was looking for. Having used it now for a few weeks I can say that the autofocus is extremely quick and very quiet. The images are very sharp as well. There is no button on the lens to switch from manual to autofocus but that does not seem to be so much of an issue since after autofocusing one can simply turn the ring on the end of the lens to manual focus (I think this is what is called manual override). No button for the VR on/off either, that is done through the camera's menu. So overall, I think this is a great lens at a very reasonable price.

It's sharp, fast focusing and cheap. Great for sports. Mostly plastic, so it's not going to take a lot of beating around. But make sure your camera is compatible before buying. Only the latest bodies like the D3400 and D7500 allow you to turn off the VR. On other bodies, like the D7200, you have to update the firmware or the lens loses focus when the meter powers off. This lens won't work at all on older models. But if you've got a compatible body, there's no better choice for the money.

Detail and clarity are very good, even at maximum zoom. I like that the manual focus ring works without having to push any other button at the same time, or go into the menu. I wish the kit lens would do that! Also, the autofocus takes only an instant; there is no hunting back and forth, and no sound that I can hear. Kudos to Nikon for achieving all this in an entry-level lens.
