I would RUN AWAY from purchasing an EdgeStar VBR640, UNLESS you are big time into gambling, or like to set fire to hundred dollar bills and watch them burn. I have owned my EdgeStar VBR640 for less than 2 years, and it is no longer cooling well. My EdgeStar VBR640 is set at 36, but it's constantly reading 41-43. It also runs continuously. I called the company that sells these units, but they were of no help. They could not direct me to anyone that will work on them, and I was advised they do not even have technical service manuals available to assist technicians. The EdgeStar VBR640 warranty is a joke in my opinion. I was told the unit would have to be shipped back to Austin for warranty work if it had still been under warranty. The rep I spoke with also said they do not even have a list of available replacement parts. The refrigerant used in the EdgeStar VBR640 is R600a so it's extremely flammable. R600a is apparently not very common here in the US. I have spoken to multiple appliance service companies (residential and commercial), and have been unable to locate anyone to work my EdgeStar VBR640. The unit still looks great, so I have a pretty piece of scrap metal and glass.Read full review
