I would approve this gadget a handy tool for campers and the like for fire starting if no other fire starting materials are available. A quick strike of the wick on the flint, ignites the fuel absorbed from the fuel reservoir. Care must be taken to ensure that the fuel ( over time) has not dried out, also make sure that the wick fire is out before reinserting into the container. Although not stated anywhere, I am presuming that the fuel is regular lighter fuel

I had a somewhat similar lighter years ago that was made in the 1930s. With a light stroke along the side it created a large shower of sparks when scratched and had a dense cluster of cotton tufts that lit instantaneously. This lighter works but is not as easy to handle as the one from years ago. The reason is that it takes a high pressure against the lighting strip to create a small number of sparks although they will light the sparse tufts of cotton on the striker. After a few strikes, the cotton tufts on mine burned away. I solved this by tucking a few short pieces of cotton kite string in the end of the striker and was back in business again. If the end of the striker is too tight to stuff the kite string pieces, try wrapping string around the hardened steel striking tip that projects from the striker tip. Most important thing when adding wick to the end of the striker is to be sure the tip will slip into the hole of the lighter fluid container. The wicking material on mine was a little sparse. Another one might be fine. The denser the wick, the more lighter fluid it will hold and the longer it will last if snuffed as soon as used. Its price and possibilities are why I recommended it.Read full review

Hey guys, So basically anyone reading this review, juat be aware that I ordered one of these just to try the quality and see if it was something u wanted to buy in bulk. I found my answer to that question: a most definite no. I attempt to light it as described and it simply will not work. I've tried this over and over probably about a literal 1,000 times and all I've received were heavy sparks. I believe that the wick surrounding the end was too far back, but that this was a manufacturer error. I can only rate this better unless I buy in bulk and find some items that actually light. Otherwise, I would say that it is in fact worth the 99 cents, but no more. Consider quality control with this item carefully before buying.

So basically its a flint, not a match, because after like 10 seconds of burning, the rope totaly burned out. I tried to put some paper around the striking end and it actualy works, though you have to put some effort in it. So its probably a no-go if you are looking for a match. But if you are looking for a match + flint, you can go with that, as the flint is of pretty good quality.

For outdoor camping. It is really handy, as match sticks can get wet, this is still able to work. Easy to light up. The seller is really helpful. Replies within 24hours. Although the product took abit time to send, I still received it and is great use. Thanks.
