Great phone i just wish i had an upgrade available because its really cheap now. The 4g xperia play is awesome except for a few minor problems. If you bought this phone for gaming be prepared to keep it charging constantly. I guess it depends on the game, but most of them run the battery down pretty quick. Also the slide mechanism seems fragile to me. When closed you can press down the top part like it isn't built very sturdy. I know it needs room to clear the bottom when sliding, but it doesn't feel right to me. Other than that it's a really cool phone. It has the basic functions of an android phone with the gingerbread system. It also has timeline which is cool, but i don't really use it that often. The game pad is really nice, but it might be uncomfortable for people with bigger hands. Overall its a cool phone and game system.Read full review
If you like videogames definitely this phone is for you, the physical buttons make the difference. Just be aware that out of the box the phone might not be as snappy as newer devices, given its single core, limited internal storage and mid-range gpu. Fortunately, if you take the time to do a little research, you can turn this device into one of the best smartphones out there, being able to play the latest games and emulators, and still being able to handle the most demanding apps with ease. Add a 64 gb microsd card, an extended battery and you’ll have plenty of room and about 3-day battery life on a single charge.
The XPERIA Play was a HUGE letdown. Pros: - Great Battery Life - outlasts any other on the market. - PSP controller, fun for some games. - Home dock included (new). - 8gb microSD card. Cons: - Incredibly slow. A whopping 1GHz, single core processor. Struggles to keep up with fast texting. (Lamens: 30-40% speed of newer phones.) - Sony Ericsson. They love making their own products, and messed up the 3.5mm headphone jack. You can't use any headphones that have a built in microphone (Apple/Beats by Dre/etc) - The trackpad design of the PSP part is absolutely terrible. It's impossible to work with, and you might as well just use the touchscreen for any game that uses it. - 1GB Internal Storage. I didn't notice this when I bought it, but 1gig is absolutely terrible, and they have tons of bloatware loaded on it.Read full review
when I check out a new phone the first thing i look for is how loud the volume is and the quality of the sound because its a phone first and this phone is that to me. it has all the features I was looking for on top of that dual cameras super dual stereo speakers outstanding sound and volume fast internet messaging wifi all wrapped up in one pakage I wish they could make another one like this with perhaps one thing a larger screen a lot of people compalain about this phone as far as not having enough memory i just use my large memory card and it works for me.
Despite the age of the phone design. This is still a great phone for gamers. PROS: With a flawless full gaming pad complete with analog controls, I decided to purchase my second Xperia Play. (Different carriers GSM vs CDMA) Emulators run perfectly, the device can play full games from the game boy era, up to the PSP era. (Emulators and ROMs you have to download of course) CONS: Single core design, it's relatively sluggish compared to the quad core phones of today. 512RAM , back in its prime this is normal. So it can't run some apps of today. 400mb storage, although it does accommodate up to 32gb Micro SD. Main app files are still stored here, so this limits the amount of app that can be downloaded. Conclusion: GSM version 4G CDMA version 3G If you need a phone to play ONLY emulators, (which means full games and literally over a thousand on a MicroSD card) then by all means, then this phone is unbeatable. If you want a fully functioning smartphone that will run todays apps, then this is not for you. But either way, given its small form and capability, buy it as a gaming machine, well worth the price!
