I had forgotten over the years just how funny this program was, the name of products that we used daily (visible brands through out the show) , the tear off soda can lids, and the guest stars that appeared on this show. Every story twist from possibly every soap opera ever made shows up, including topics that were considered shocking for the year 1976. Also a great time capsule for our bi-centennial year (1776-1976). Perfect casting.

After Sony's feeble attempt of releasing only the fist 25 episodes, I had long given up hope of ever seeing this groundbreaking series again. I was nothing short of elated to find out that Shout Factory dove in head first and released the entire series with some extras in one fell swoop. The show was considered controversial at the time. It works on two very different levels. It functioned as a conventional soap opera that used subject matter few,if any other shows at the time would dare to tackle. It really has the ability to draw you into the story lines now matter how absurd. Simultaneously, it was a comedic satire on American consumerism, and the effect that television and the media in general had on the population and especially on the then still common TV watching stay at home Moms. The writing is sharp, both dramatic and laugh out loud funny. The casting is extremely well done. Shot on the cheap, the occasional flub in dialogue is left in adding to the realism of it all. Perhaps best of all, these are ordinary people. They are not soap opera pretty, rich, or well educated. You probably have known people much like many of the characters who reside in fictional Fernwood, Ohio.Read full review
Takes me back in time, loved the program then and now I am enjoying it all over again. Programs like this were entertaining not like the reality shows on today.

This takes me back in time. I love the "take-off" of American soap operas. Norman lear and associates takes the good old soap opera and pushes it further.
