There are newer forms of storage that hold more than Smart Media cards (Smart Media cards hold a maximum of 128 MB) but for select older synthesizers there is no need. I use Smart Media cards with my Roland XV-3080 synthesizer and I measured how much space 18 banks of 128 sounds takes and it only takes 1.8 MB......it would take forever to fill 128 MBs !!!! This card reader reads both Smart Media cards and XD cards perfectly and installs with no driver CD needed with Windows XP. I always backup my Smart Media cards and XD cards to DVD (NEVER CD !!!!) and I have good long term storage. CDs can fail over time. I've never had a DVD that was burnt correctly and verified ever fail yet. Always look a the record side of every DVD before using them and make sure there are no irregularities or marks. Sony blank DVDs are my favorites. I've never had any problems with either type of memory card and I've been using Smart Media cards since 2002 (and it's Dec. 13, 2015). It's absolutely crucial to be able to have a good card reader to be able to backup memory cards to DVD. Even though I don't expect that my memory cards will fail (it can happen) another reason to back everything up is in case the memory card would ever get damaged. You can still find new ones on Ebay so if the data is backed up on to DVD, you could move the data to a new card if you ever need to.Read full review

I have an Olympus C-720. The software for the camera would not work with Windows 10. Called Olympus and was told there isn't an update for C-720. I began looking for a card reader that would work with my Olympus camera. It has a smart media card. I found this CameraMate reader. It read it worked with Windows 10 and Olympus cameras. I inserted my smartmedia card in the reader and used a USB port to transfer pics. Perfect. Plus I don't have top waste power to transfer as this reader uses USB. Once transferred I moved the pics to photo program. This card reader saved me from buying a new camera.

Put your Smart Media card in to the adaptor and plug it into a USB port and all of the files on the Smart Media are accessable to you on your computer. Works like a Charm. I keep it with my camera. No more wires to string when I want to import digital photos from camera to computer. Simple is better !

I recently found an old camera of mine that had a large smart card with it. There was no way I could put it into my computer so I ordered this card reader. It worked great! I was able to easily import my photos into windows 10 photos and didn't have any problems at all. I love the little built-in USB plug - no need for more cords to pile up in my drawer. Good bargain, good machine!

I was thrilled to find this card reader because we have an older Fuji camera with a card larger than what is used today. It will also read the new cards. It works great!
