I'm using it just for jerky and have used it for the past 4 weekends with good results. I do feel that it is pretty basic. It is a good model to just make sure that you are going to stick with the hobby and not let it take up space in the closet. I will most likely eventually upgrade to something with more capacity and functionality. For the price, I am definitely not disappointed.

Ronco food dehydrator dries food, hits the mark on intended use. When I do jerky I plan on at least one hour clean up after the meat is done. There are lots of hard to reach places, the electrical unit on the bottom is tricky to clean. I'm not an electrician but I'm sure submerging the electrical parts is not a good idea. I very lightly scrub the jerky brine off the element that gets cooked on, due diligence. Follow the manufactures directions on how thin to slice your food, any thing over 24 hours to dry, I'm going to buy it at the market. Its a $30 dryer, functional without any controls, it works.

I like it pretty well. They hydrating times in the booklet vary as to how long it really takes. Some longer / some shorter. Like Kale didn't take as long as mentioned. I already melted the catcher tray, my mistake, not putting it back together the right way. Called Ronco and they advised it is ok to use without it. It does what I bought it for.

I've been using Ronco dehydrators for over 20 years to make beef jerky, deer jerky and dried fruit and vegetables, this dehydrator is very versatile and easy to store, everyone goes crazy for my jerky and says it's far better than anything in the store, (homemade usually is better). My recipe is simple, at first I used flank steak, it's great but expensive, now I use London broil, sliced into strips about the thickness of thin bacon, my marinade is Teriyaki , Worcester, Soy Sauce, Liquid Smoke, and Brown Sugar, in some batches I also add minced jalapeño peppers to and the mix and black pepper the jerky depending on if I want. sweet or spicy. I really don't measure, but my list goes from the most to the least ingredient, I highly recommend this product to make jerky, your friends and family will line up to get some every time you make it!Read full review
