I, being a beginner can't tell you wether or not it sounds right. It sounds good to me though. It is incredible for the price. I did take an hour and a half setting it up though. You will have to set up the bridge. After that you have to tune it. The pegs aren't securely in, so you will have to hit the pegs with the palm of your hand. If you don't, it just won't tune. As a warning the fine tuners are not easy to use and the back of the violin's neck isn't painted.

Understanding that I didn't pay a lot initially for the "new" violin and case, I am really disappointed that the case fell off my daughters shoulders within a week of purchase and receipt of product. She thought she broke the violin, but the straps were sewed on with one or two stitches and both straps broke while she was carrying the violin and her books. It is a fair value, but I wouldn't recommend it to the other moms whose children are in my daughters orchestra. The violin in and of itself is a very good deal, though. I really should be fair in that.

You get what you pay for, true, but you expect it to last at least long enough to get set-up. This violin is so cheap it broke while I was tuning it and the bow didn't even last long enough to try to play a note. The construction feels cheap and the entire violin isn't even varnished properly. The bridge wasn't even notched; and paying a luthier to prepare the bridge properly is expensive enough that you may as well skip this cheap product and buy a more expensive violin manufactured by reputable, known company, like Cecilio or Mendini.

Great value for a limited income family for their youngest to play a violin at school this year. She just loves the violin and a great vaule for us. Check this site for more details.

This violin is OK. I primarily bought for decorating. I have another to play. The pegs do hold up pretty well. Considering what I paid for it. There are no complaints I can make. I would still rate this as a novice violin
