The first 3 films were great. The 4th ? Well, it was good, but i understand why it flopped. But i've seen films that turned out worse than this. I still give this set 5 stars. The bonus features are spectacular. Theatrical trailers, music videos, making -of featurettes. Pretty much the works !

Tim Burton and Michael Keaton team up for the first two movies in this special set, with the SPECIAL EDITIONS of both BATMAN and BATMAN RETURNS included. Notable supporting roles come from Jack Nicholson, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Alongside Burton's films are Joel Schumacher's two attempts at directing the infamous superhero, with SPECIAL EDITIONS of BATMAN FOREVER and BATMAN & ROBIN included. Val Kilmer (BATMAN FOREVER) and George Clooney (BATMAN & ROBIN) both don the Batsuit in these versions, while the casts are fleshed out by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chris O'Donnell, Uma Thurman, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, and many other stars. See individual titles for more synopsis information.
The first two Tim Burton-helmed movies are truly my favorites. He reinvented the dark, brooding, revenge-driven Batman that I remember from the early comics (I read reprints, by the way) and the return to this format in the seventies. The production design of Batman(1989) and Batman Returns(1992) as well as the casting were truly key. That being said, I move on to Batman Forever(1995). Recasting the caped crusader should have been given more thought. I have never been a huge fan of Val Kilmer; his take was more brooding but we then add Chris O'Donnell as a frat boy Robin who seemed like he'd be more at home chugging beer in his dorm room. Also the production values didn't slip, they took a sharp left turn. We have sets that reminded me of old carnival fun houses, loaded with black lights and colorful paint, spotlights and rock concert lighting. What a mess. Jim Carrey? Annoying! Tommy Lee Jones? Waste of exceptional talent. Ok, so the special features clue us into what Warner wanted: Lighten up the franchise. Joel Schumacher does this by giving us TOO much to see and hear; two villains again and new characters that we don't really care about. Not missing a beat after the third film made money, the producers launched into Batman and Robin(1997). Well? It looked and felt like a "toy commercial" (to quote O'Donnell himself) and esentially, it was. Warner wanted to tie in all the merchandise as they had with the previous film for major profits. All they accomplised was to kill the franchise, that is, until Christopher Nolan brought us into the 21st century. The special features are plenty in this set; each DVD has two discs, and loads of extras. Even if you are a fan of the first two movies only, this set is well worth the price.Read full review
